Man charged with harassment
A Waverly man was recently arrested by Tioga County, N.Y. sheriff's deputies on a charge of aggravated harassment.
Police said Robert C. Corby Sr., 32, was arrested April 19 following investigation into a harassment complaint in Barton. Corby is accused of sending unwanted text messages, police said.
Corby was issued tickets to appear May 6 in Barton Town Court.
Two charged in Athens fight
Athens Borough police recently charged two people with disorderly conduct following a March 14 incident in the borough.
According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Richard Nicholas Rivera, 47, and Henry Nelson Brown Jr., 35, both of Athens, were charged following an altercation on Bridge Street. Police said Rivera and Brown pushed and struck one another at about 10:22 p.m. March 14. Both had injuries as a result of the fight, police said.
Rivera and Brown are both scheduled to appear May 20 at preliminary hearings.
Woman charged with theft
A Sayre woman was recently charged with theft by unlawful taking by Athens Township police.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Samantha R. Brown, 30, was also charged with receiving stolen property.
Police said Brown, an employee at the Arby's restaurant on Elmira Street at the time of the incident, removed a deposit of $898.36 from the restaurant April 12.
Brown's preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 20.
Drug paraphernalia charge
An Athens woman was recently charged with possession of drug paraphernalia by state police.
According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Tiffany Lee Rose, 25, was found to be in possession of hypodermic needles and a snorting straw during a Jan. 22 visit by Bradford County probation officers to an Athens Borough apartment.
Rose's preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 27.
Two arrested in drug sale
Two Towanda residents were recently arrested by state police and charged with criminal conspiracy to commit possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Rhonda Gene Benjamin, 22, and Paul Boyce Vanderpool, 25, were each also charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, criminal use of a communication facility, possession of a controlled substance and endangering the welfare of children.
Police said Benjamin and Vanderpool sold 10 Percocet pills to a confidential informant Jan. 31 in the parking lot of the Walmart store on Elmira Street in Athens Township. Two children, a 3-year-old and a 5-month-old, were in the vehicle during the transaction, police said.
Benjamin and Vanderpool were arraigned April 22 and released from the Bradford County Jail on non-monetary bail. Both are scheduled to appear April 29 at preliminary hearings.
Sayre man charged with resisting arrest
Sayre Borough police recently charged a Sayre man with resisting arrest following an April 22 incident at his Glaser Street residence.
According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Michael E. Comstock, 22, was also charged with two counts of harassment.
Police said Comstock attempted to punch, kick and push police officers as they executed an arrest warrant on him for failure to appear in court. Police deployed a stun gun on Comstock in order to place him into custody, according to police. Comstock was then handcuffed and placed inside a police vehicle, where he attempted to kick out a window, police said.
Comstock was arraigned April 22 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail. Comstock's preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 29.
DUI crash reported
State police at Towanda said Shane Michael Case, 31, of Troy, is accused in a DUI crash that occurred at 10:42 p.m. March 25 on Route 6 in Burlington Township.
Police said he was arrested for DUI and other summary traffic violations, and charges were filed in District Court 42-3-03.
According to police, the one-vehicle crash occurred as he was traveling west on Route 6 and was trying to negotiate a left hand curve. Police said he lost control of his vehicle, which slid across the roadway as he tried to regain control of the vehicle. It left the roadway on the south side of the road and struck a ditch, just off the roadway. The vehicle then rolled over onto its driver side in the ditch, where it came to final rest, police said.
Police said no one was injured, and all parties involved were reported to be wearing their seat belts. Police said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
Man charged with assaulting woman
Charles Marvin Deskins, 35, of Wysox has been charged with simple assault and harassment for allegedly striking a woman during an incident on April 19 at the intersection of Goff Road and State Route 6 in Standing Stone Twp.
According to police, Deskins and the woman became involved in an argument that led to Deskins striking her in the left side of the head, causing bruising and swelling.
The victim told police that during the argument Deskins pushed her down and threw her over a guardrail on State Route 6.
Deskins was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton on April 19 and remanded to the Bradford County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled before Judge Wheaton at 1 p.m. on April 29.
DUI charges
The following people were recently charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:
Karri Elizabeth Crigger, 25, of Athens, by Sayre Borough police, on April 6, on West Hayden Street in Sayre. Crigger has also been charged with failure to keep right and violation of required position and method of turning. A blood test revealed that Crigger's blood alcohol content was .15 percent on the day of her arrest. Crigger has been sent a summons to appear May 20 before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw for a preliminary hearing.
Peter J. Ingrassia, 41, of Sayre, by Athens Township police, on April 19, on Front Street in Athens Township. Ingrassia has also been charged with failure to drive on the right side of the roadway and careless driving. Ingrassia refused to submit to a blood test to determine his blood alcohol content. Ingrassia has been sent a summons to appear May 27 before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw for a preliminary hearing.
