Public drunkenness charge
An Athens man was recently arrested by Sayre Borough police on a charge of public drunkenness.
According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Lester David Walters, 35, was also charged with harassment and simple assault.
Police said Walters was involved in an altercation with a female at a North Higgins Avenue residence, slapping and choking her at about 5:25 p.m. June 1.
Walters was arraigned June 1 by Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail. Walters' preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 10.
Man jailed for marijuana possession
Athens Borough police recently arrested a man on a charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Jason Michael White, 22, was found to be in possession of marijuana June 1 on Spruce Street during investigation into a report of unlawfully taken currency. White, who police said is homeless, told police he was on probation for an unrelated offense, police said.
White was arraigned June 1 by Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail. White's preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 10.
