Side door damaged at Towanda Public Library
The Towanda Borough police said they are investigating a recent case of criminal mischief, in which someone damaged a side door to the Towanda Public Library at 104 Main St.
"Someone tried to break through the window of a side door" of the library at some point between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday, said Jesse A. Johnson, director of the library. The door is located off Maple Street, he said.
Johnson said he didn't know if the offender was trying to break into the library, because no one was in the library at the time.
In addition, there was a scuff mark on the side door, he said. "It looked like someone kicked it," which caused some damage to the door, he said.
In addition, an ashtray along the side of the building, which had been made from a bird bath, was broken, Johnson said. The offender had apparently used the ashtray to strike the window, Johnson said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Towanda Borough police at (570) 265-2522. "All reports will remain anonymous," the Towanda police wrote in a press release that they issued about the incident.
