Man charged with failure to register
A Towanda man was taken into custody recently for failure to register as a sexual offender.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Richard Eugene Grant, 31, was charged by state police with the above offense on June 16. Grant is accused of failing to report a change of address to the authorities within 10 days, as required by law for a person who has been convicted of a sexual offense.
Grant is scheduled to appear today before Judge Clark for his preliminary hearing.
Man charged with criminal trespass
A Meshoppen man was cited by state police recently for criminal trespass.
According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Chad A. Fassett, 31, was charged with the above offense following an incident on April 20. Fassett is accused of entering the residence of Sheilia Bump without her permission on that date.
Fassett is scheduled to appear before Judge Clark on July 23 for his preliminary hearing.
Man charged with false reports
A Towanda man has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark to answer a charge of making false reports to law enforcement authorities.
According to information filed in Clark's office, Richard Alfred Johnson, 28, was charged by state police with the above offense following an incident that occurred on Dec. 13, 2013. On that date, according to the report, Trooper Michael Tribendis of the state police investigated a burglary at the home of Brooke Marie Silvers in Monroe Township. Silvers explained that she and her boyfriend, Johnson, came home earlier and found the apartment had been broken into. Silvers also informed Tribendis that her television was missing. Johnson told Tribendis his Xbox was also missing from the apartment.
In the report, Tribendis said he investigated the scene, and was able to determine from the evidence that the burglary had been staged. Further investigation led him to believe that Johnson, who had broken up earlier in the day with Silver following an argument, had staged the robbery and was in possession of his Xbox when he reported it stolen.
Johnson is scheduled to appear before Judge Clark for his preliminary hearing on July 30.
Man charged with possession
A Dushore man was cited by state police recently on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Robert Lloyd Yates, 20, was charged with the above offense following an incident on May 3. On that date, state police investigated a vehicle on James Street in North Towanda Township that Yates was occupying at the time, and found three burned objects that later tested positive as marijuana cigarettes.
Yates is scheduled to appear before Judge Clark on July 30.
Man faces reckless endangerment charge
A Forksville man has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark to answer a charge of recklessly endangering another person.
According to information filed in Clark's office, Charles David Wiles, 23, was cited by the state police for the above offense following an incident on Oct. 23, 2013. On that date, Trooper Michael Tribendis of the state police was dispatched to Bradford County Children and Youth to investigate a report of a 4-year-old child spotted playing on Front Street in New Albany. Based upon this information, Tribendis spoke to Wiles, who denied that the child was on the roadway. However, evidence obtained by Tribendis from witnesses indicated the child was on the road, unsupervised at the time.
Wiles is scheduled to appear before Judge Clark on July 30.
Man charged with simple assault
A Towanda man was cited by borough police recently following a domestic dispute.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Jason Martinet, 37, has been charged with simple assault; harassment; endangering the welfare of a child; access to a device by an unauthorized user; and receiving stolen property. Martinet is accused of striking and injuring Amanda Anania in May at their residence, as well as threatening her children and accessing and removing money from her bank account when he was not authorized to do so.
Martinet is scheduled to appear before Judge Clark for his preliminary hearing on July 16.
Man accused of possession
A Towanda man was charged by state police recently with possession of a controlled substance.
According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Gary Lee Joslyn, 41, was charged with the above offense following an incident on Oct. 10, 2013. Joslyn is accused of selling bath salts to a confidential police informant at a private residence in Towanda.
Joslyn has been sent a summons to appear before Judge Clark on July 16.
Man faces possession charge
A Towanda man was arrested by borough police recently on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Timothy Bailey, 34, has also been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Sgt. David Lantz of the Towanda police reported receiving information concerning Bailey's whereabouts on April 30. Because there is an active warrant for Bailey's arrest, according to the report, Lantz went to the address and discovered Bailey on the premises. In addition, the report indicated that Bailey also was in possession of a controlled substance at the time of his arrest.
Bailey has been sent a summons to appear before Judge Clark on July 2.
Man charged with simple assault
A Towanda man accused of engaging in a mutual fight with two juveniles at the Towanda Junior/Senior High School has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark.
According to papers filed in Clark's office, Jared Donald Parsons, 18, has been charged by Towanda police with simple assault; mutual consent fight; and disorderly conduct.
Towanda Patrolman John Hennessy was called to the school on May 6 to investigate the report of a fight on the premises. Hennessy was informed by school staff that Parsons had been fighting earlier with two 16-year-old male juveniles in one of the school bathrooms. Hennessy observed video footage that a security camera in the bathroom had recorded of the incident, in which Parsons was observed punching and kicking several times one of the other participants.
Parsons has been sent a summons to appear before Judge Clark on July 18.
Man cited for simple assault
A Towanda man has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark to answer a charge of simple assault.
According to information filed in Clark's office, Christopher Johnson, 24, has also been charged by Towanda police with harassment. Johnson is accused of striking and injuring Angelica Johnson during a dispute at a private residence in Towanda on June 1.
Johnson is scheduled to appear before Judge Clark on July 18.
DUI charge
The following person was charged recently in Bradford County with driving while under the influence:
Danielle Mae Overpeck, 42, of Waverly, N.Y. has also been charged with operating a vehicle without a license; crossing the center line of traffic; and careless driving. Overpeck was charged on May 18, following a traffic stop on Liberty Corners Road in Towanda Township. A blood test eventually revealed that Overpeck's blood alcohol content was .148 percent on the day of her arrest. Overpeck has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark on July 23.
