Woman charged with retail theft

A Binghamton, N.Y. woman was recently charged with retail theft by Athens Township police.

According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Danielle Nicole Mitchell, 44, was arrested July 12 after attempting to remove $406.52 in merchandise from the Walmart store on Elmira Street.

Mitchell was arraigned July 12 by Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail. Mitchell's preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 22.

Athens man tased after resisting arrest

An Athens man was recently charged with resisting arrest by Athens Borough police.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Ben E. Nogar, 54, was also charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.

Police said an intoxicated Nogar approached police during investigation into an incident in front of his Ann Street residence, attempted to interrupt the investigation and refused to return to his residence. Police said Nogar also threatened officers and refused to cooperate when police attempted to arrest him for disorderly conduct.

Police forcibly took Nogar to the ground, where he continued to resist officers, police said. Officers ultimately deployed a stun gun on Nogar to be able to place him into custody, according to police.

Police found a clear plastic baggie containing a green leafy substance later confirmed to be marijuana on Nogar's person following his arrest, police said.

Nogar was arraigned July 12 by Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $35,000 bail. Nogar's preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 15.
