Illegal spotlight hunting leads to arrest
Doc Minford Daugherty, 66, of Towanda has been charged with unlawful killing of game animals, unlawful use of lights while hunting, hunting from a vehicle, shooting on or across a highway and possessing a loaded rifle in a vehicle.
According to police, on the night of Dec. 3 Daugherty was spotted shooting at deer from his vehicle while using a spotlight. On the morning of Dec. 4 police said Daugherty was found attempting to retrieve a deer from the same field that he had fired into the night prior.
Police then made contact with Daugherty at his residence and, after he gave consent for police to search his vehicle, a loaded .243 rifle was found in the car, police said.
Daugherty has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton on Aug. 13 for a preliminary hearing.
Rome woman found with drugs
Lisa Marie Boss, 51, of Rome has been charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia relating to a May 7 incident on Towner Hill Road in Rome Township.
According to police, a call was received from a resident of the house stating that Boss had marijuana and related paraphernalia inside the house.
Police arrived at the house and seized a pill bottle and plastic bag containing marijuana, an envelope containing rolling papers and a metal tin with smoking pipes inside.
Boss has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton on Aug. 13 for a preliminary hearing.
Woman charged with simple assault
A Sayre woman has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton to answer a charge of simple assault.
According to information filed in Wheaton's office, Barbara Jean Nusbaum, 43, of 107 N. Higgins Ave., has also been charged with harassment. Nusbaum is accused of striking and scratching someone recently while they were riding in a vehicle on Collins Road in Litchfield Township. Nusbaum is scheduled to appear before Judge Wheaton for her preliminary hearing on Aug. 13.
Woman cited following accident
State police reported filing various charges against a woman recently, following a two-vehicle accident in Wysox Township.
According to police, Tristan Rae Panzier, 24, of Monroeton, has been charged with driving while under the influence, operating a vehicle without proper registration, operating a vehicle without a license, driving without required liability insurance, driving on the wrong side of the road, and careless driving.
Police said that Panzier was driving an Acura east on state Route 6 around 8:40 p.m. on July 11, when she lost control of her vehicle, causing it to cross into the westbound lane into the path of another, causing a head-on collision.
While speaking to Panzier at the scene, police said, they observed her eyes were bloodshot, her speech was slurred, and she had a moderate odor of alcohol on her person. Panzier was taken to Memorial Hospital in Towanda, where she agreed to submit to a blood test. The test eventually revealed that Panzier's blood alcohol content was .128 percent on the day of the crash.
Panzier has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton on Aug. 13.
Man accused of terroristic threats
A Wysox man was cited by state police recently on a charge of terroristic threats.
According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton, Rosby Nelson French, 76, of 2035 River Road, has also been charged with simple assault.
According to the complaint, French is accused of striking and injuring a resident at the Wyalusing Personal Care in December during a dispute. The injured party was transported to Memorial Hospital in Towanda where she was treated for a slight concussion, bruised ribs, a bruised elbow, and a bruised shin, according to the report.
French is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing before Judge Wheaton on Aug. 6.
Man charged with criminal trespass
A Waverly man accused of recently assaulting another person in his residence was charged by state police with criminal trespass.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton, Justin Eugene Gill, 30, of 1 Besemer Road, has also been charged with burglary and simple assault. Gill is accused of entering a private residence on Feb. 18, and assaulting the resident as he was asleep on the coach in the living room.
Gill has been sent a summons to appear before Judge Wheaton for his preliminary hearing on Aug. 13.
Man accused of false reports
A Laceyville man has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton to answer a charge of providing false reports to authorities.
According to information filed in Wheaton's office, Timothy Michael Manahan, 42, of 541 Doolittle Hill Road, was cited for the above offense following an incident that occurred on July 4 at the Comfort Inn in Wysox. On that date, the report continued, Manahan informed the police he had been sexually assaulted by another man at the Comfort Inn the day before. Manahan provided the authorities with a description of the man.
Police reported eventually contacting the man described by Manahan, who admitted to having sexual contact with him at the Comfort Inn, but related that the act was consensual.
Later, on July 7, the report continued, Manahan was re-interviewed by state police, where he admitted to having lied about being sexually assaulted.
Manahan's preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 6 before Judge Wheaton.
Man jailed on assault charge
A Wyalusing man was ordered incarcerated in lieu of bail recently, on allegations he struck and injured another man during an altercation.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton, Charles F. McManus, 45, of 851 Race Hill Road, has been charged by Northeast police with aggravated assault. McManus is accused of striking an unidentified man on July 13 at Ricks Hunting and Fishing Store in LeRaysville, after the man refused to sell McManus a firearm. The report indicated that McManus struck the man across the face, knocking him to the floor in the process, then hitting him in the face and head, and choking him, until another customer came into the store. The victim was transported to Memorial Hospital in Towanda.
McManus was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark who ordered the defendant incarcerated in lieu of $15,000 bail. McManus' preliminary hearing has been scheduled for July 23 before Judge Wheaton.
Man charged with possession
A Towanda man is scheduled to appear today before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark for his preliminary hearing, to answer a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
According to papers filed in Clark's office, Robert R. Lafy, 45, of 33 Vista Drive, has also been charged by state police with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled or counterfeit substance.
Lafy is accused of selling bath salts to an undercover police informant in January at the Dandy Mini Mart in Ulster, police reported.
Lafy was ordered incarcerated at the Bradford County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail, following his arraignement before Judge Clark.
Man cited for criminal trespass
A Towanda man was arrested by state police recently on a charge of criminal trespass.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, John Thomas Parker Sr., 55, of 235 Center St., has also been charged with burglary, flight to avoid apprehension, trial or punishment, and theft by unlawful taking.
Parker is accused of entering the residence of Wendy Sue Garner on July 12 without her permission, police reported. Garner informed the authorities that when she arrived at her residence, she observed Parker in the back room, going through her items. Garner said she told Parker to leave several times, but he refused to do so until she informed him she was going to call the state police. When Parker left, Garner said, he was carrying a shoebox and several other items.
Police said they observed Parker in Towanda Township later in the day, and attempted to apprehend him a number of times, but lost track of him before they were able to do so. A police K-9 unit was also employed in an attempt to track Parker down, police said.
Parker's preliminary hearing has been scheduled for July 24 before Judge Clark.
Two charged following incident
Two people have been sent summonses to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton to answer a charges following an incident at a private residence in Asylum Township.
According to information filed in Wheaton's office, Jesse Charles Dupont, 20, of 857 Pisgah Road, and Bradley Daniel Bailey, 21, of 80 E. Carson St., Canton, have each been charged by state police with simple assault and harassment. In addition, Bailey has also been charged with criminal mischief.
The two men are accused of going to a private residence on May 21, and assaulting the owner, punching and kicking him in the head and face, injuring him in the process.
Both Dupont and Bailey are scheduled to appear before Judge Wheaton on Aug. 6 for their preliminary hearings.
DUI charges
The following people have been charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:
Sean Michael O'Connor, 25, of 235 Race Hill Rd., Wyalusing. O'Connor has also been charged by state police with driving on the wrong side of the road, and careless driving. O'Connor was charged following a one-vehicle accident on May 26 state Route 6 in Wyalusing Township. A blood test eventually revealed that O'Connor's blood alcohol content was .231 percent on the day of the crash.
O'Connor has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton on Aug. 6.
Joseph Charles Brink, 25, of 524 Underhill Rd., Wyalusing. Brink has also been charged by state police with driving on the wrong side of the road, and careless driving. Brink was charged following a one-vehicle crash on June 30 on state Route 409 in Wyalusing Township. A blood test eventually revealed that Brink's blood alcohol content on .123 percent on the day of the crash.
Brink has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton on Aug. 6.
Jamie Lynn McGowan, 26, of 324 Morgan Rd., Wyalusing. McGowan has also been charged by state police with operating a vehicle without a license, driving on the wrong side of the road, and careless driving. McGowan was charged following a traffic stop conducted by state police on June 9 on state Route 6 in Wysox Township. A blood alcohol test eventually revealed that McGowan's blood alcohol content was .123 percent on the day of his arrest.
Marissa Jane Odom, 21, of C15 Lake Rd., Stevensville. Odom has also been charged by state police with driving on the wrong side of the road, and careless driving. Odom was charged following a traffic stop conducted by state police on June 13 on state Route 6 in Standing Stone. A blood test eventually revealed that Odom's blood alcohol content was .148 percent on the day of her arrest.
Odom has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton on July 23.
Roman Akifiev, 23, of 383 York Ave., Towanda. Akifiev has also been charged by Towanda police with driving on the wrong side of the road, careless driving, and failure to wear his seatbelt. Akifiev was charged following a traffic stop by Towanda police on June 13 on York Avenue. A blood test eventually revealed that Akifiev's blood alcohol content was .15 percent on the day of his arrest.
Akifiev has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark on Aug. 30.
Raul Madera, 30, of Gorman, Texas, by state police, on July 8, on State Route 6 at Bayesa Lane in Wyalusing Township. Madera has also been charged with driving without an insured vehicle, driving on the wrong side of the road, failing to stay in his lane and careless driving. Madera refused to submit to a blood alcohol test on the day of his arrest. Madera is currently being held on $25,000 bail.
