Assault charge filed after domestic incident call
On the evening of Sept. 4, Sayre Borough Police officers were dispatched to a residence on Hoover Street in Sayre for a reported physical domestic disturbance occurring outside. Upon arriving at the scene, no one was present outside the home.
Officers knocked on the front door to encounter Erik R. Agnew, 31, of Sayre, who explained he and his girlfriend had gotten into an argument and she had left. When asked if the altercation had gotten physical, he at first stated, "no," before later stating he had been hit in the nose by the woman.
Officers were contacted by Bradford County Dispatch that the woman was on the line regarding the argument. Officers met with the woman who gave a statement to police indicating that she and Agnew began to argue and he did push her in a thrusting motion hitting her in the chest and knocked her to the couch. She at this time tried to call her mother but Agnew attempted to retrieve the phone from her grasp by grabbing her from behind. She stated that the two fell to the floor and Agnew put her "in a choke hold," making it difficult to breath.
Following a struggle, she was able to free herself and ran to the back door. She got into her vehicle with Agnew following behind. When she realized her vehicle was blocked by the suspect's, she drove through a neighboring yard and to her parents house to report the incident.
Officer Jeremy Horton reportedly observed red marks on the victims chest and neck consistent with her account. Officers returned to Agnew's residence to place him under arrest. He was charged with misdemeanor attempted simple assault and harassment including a strike, shove, kick, etc.
He was arraigned by District Judge Wilcox and received $15,000 bail. He is set to answer these charges on Sept. 29 in the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas.
