For the fourth year for young ladies, the Petersburg Sheriff's Office has sponsored a Law Enforcement Camps for girls. The group consisted of young ladies from the ages of 12-14 years of age. The goal of the camp was two-fold. The first was to expose this age group, as they begin to think about career choices, the vast opportunities that are available in the law enforcement arena. The second was to continue to reinforce the thought that the law enforcement community is not to be feared and can be trusted. The children also began to understand the political process as they were given the task of electing a president at the beginning of the week. The Petersburg Sheriff's Office partners with the Parks & Leisure Services Department in this effort each year to continue to affect the minds of youth in a positive way.
