DUI/evading officer arrest made

On Sept. 6, Officer Derek Watkins of the Sayre Borough Police Department was on patrol when he observed a vehicle fail to stop at the intersection of West Lockhart and Desmond streets in Sayre. The vehicle made a right turn and the officer noted its high rate of speed.

At this time the officers activated their lights and sirens to attempt a traffic stop. The vehicle continued at a high rate of speed on Desmond Street and turned on to Packer Avenue while failing to stop at the sign. At this time the officer noted in the statement, the suspect began to attempt to flee from police.

The vehicle turned on South Elmer and again failed to stop at a marked stop sign, then accelerated onto North Elmer Avenue and reached speeds of over 100 mph.

Officers from Sayre Borough Police Department gave chase safely, until the suspect locked up the brakes in the vehicle and crashed into the cable guide wire on the north side of Bradford Street, disabling the vehicle.

The suspect then opened the driver side door and attempted to flee on foot. Officer Watkins advised the suspect, identified at this time at Todd M. Eccleston, 46, of Waverly, to stop before he gave chase and deployed his taser. Eccleston fell to the ground upon being struck and was able to be taken into custody.

A subsequent search of the vehicle found a bag of marijuana weighing 7.7 grams.

Eccleston was arrested and charged with felony resisting arrest; misdemeanor fleeing or attempting to elude officer; DUI: general impairment, first offense; and reckless driving.

He was pre-arraigned by District Judge Wilcox and received $45,000 bail. Eccleston has been remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of bail.

DUI arrest made

Officer Bruce Hoffman with the Sayre Borough Police Department responded to a call on Aug. 10, regarding a male slumped over at the wheel of a parked truck on Desmond Street.

The officer approached the vehicle and noticed a male leaning over the steering wheel with saliva visibly trailing from his mouth. The truck was turned on at this point.

The officer knocked on the window and asked the driver, now identified as Brandon G. Seeley, 24, of Sayre, to roll down the window. Seeley then turned off the truck and opened the door. At this time the officer detected the strong odor of alcohol emitting from Seeley and the vehicle.

Seeley jumped out of the truck and according to the officer, "almost fell."

Seeley was then asked to perform the standard field sobriety tests to which he responded, "I'll do it, but I'm drunk anyway."

Seeley was transported to the Robert Packer Hospital for a blood draw, which he refused.

Seeley was arrested and charged on Sept. 2, with driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance. He will answer to these charges at a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 10, at the Bradford County Courthouse.
