Bradford County Court News 10/12/2014

Bradford County District Attorney Daniel J. Barrett reported that the following persons recently entered pleas of guilty in the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas, Towanda:

Travis Ayers, 20, Troy, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Corruption of Minors, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Ayers will be sentenced on Oct. 30, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Trooper Miranda Musick of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Ayers following investigation of an incident that occurred in Troy Township in March 2014.

Bradford County District Attorney Daniel J. Barrett announced that the following persons were recently accepted into the ARD Program in the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas, Towanda:

Casey Serfas, 23, Gillett, Pa., charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of nine months. While on probation, Serfas will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Serfas must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade, attend a Victim Impact Panel and he will lose his Pennsylvania driving privilege for 60 days. Officer Andrew Stevens of the Athens Borough Police Department filed the charges on March 29, 2014 for the offense in Athens Borough.

Ashley Anderson, 25, Chemung, N.Y., charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of 12 months. While on probation, Anderson will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Anderson must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade, attend a Victim Impact Panel and she will lose her Pennsylvania driving privilege for 30 days. Officer Andrew Stevens of the Athens Borough Police Department filed the charge on May 16, 2014 for the offense in Athens Borough.

Matthew Jeannette, 53, Athens, Pa., charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of 12 months. While on probation, Jeannette will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Jeannette must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade, attend a Victim Impact Panel and he will lose his Pennsylvania driving privilege for 30 days.

Officer Richard Horton of the Athens Township Police Department filed the charges on May 2, 2014 for the offense in Athens Township.

Heather McMahon, 26, Wysox, Pa., charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of 12 months. While on probation, McMahon, will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, McMahon must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade, attend a Victim Impact Panel and she will lose her Pennsylvania driving privilege for 60 days. Officer Bryan Bellows of the Towanda Borough Police Department filed the charges on April 26, 2014 for the offense in Towanda Borough.

Jenna Nichols, 28, Rome, Pa., charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of 12 months. While on probation, Nichols, will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Nichols must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade, attend a Victim Impact Panel and she will lose her Pennsylvania driving privilege for 30 days. Trooper Peter Smith of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Nichols for the offense.

Yvonne Kim, 59, Sayre, Pa., charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of nine months. While on probation, Kim, will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Kim must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade, attend a Victim Impact Panel and she will lose her Pennsylvania driving privilege for 60 days. Officer Bruce Hoffman of the Sayre Borough Police Department filed the charges on Jan. 20, 2014 for the offense in Sayre Borough.

Danielle Shoemaker, 29, Ulster, Pa., charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of nine months. While on probation, Shoemaker, will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Shoemaker must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade, attend a Victim Impact Panel and she will lose her Pennsylvania driving privilege for 30 days. Officer Andrew Stevens of the Athens Borough Police Department filed the charges on June 22, 2014 for the offense in Athens Borough.

Kurt Ritts, 48, Towanda, Pa., charged with the offense of Simple Assault, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of 12 months. While on probation, Ritts, will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use.

Additionally, Ritts must perform 49 hours community service. Officer Bryan Bellows of the Towanda Borough Police Department filed the charges on June 27, 2014 for the offense in Towanda Borough.

Bradford County District Attorney Daniel J. Barrett reported that the following person(s) recently entered a plea of Nolo Contendere in the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas, Towanda:

Morgan Henry, 33, Sayre, Pa., entered a plea of nolo contendere/no contest to Simple Assault, a misdemeanor of the second degree. Henry will be sentenced on Oct. 30, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. A no-contest plea is entered where the defendant cannot recall the event, but will be held guilty and sentenced. Chief Daniel Reynolds of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Henry for the offense on Dec. 26, 2013.

District Attorney Daniel J. Barrett reported the following recent criminal case resolutions in the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas, Towanda:

Sentenced

Tyrone Garnett, 21, of Towanda, Pa., was re-sentenced to a term of imprisonment in a Pennsylvania State Correctional Facility from nine months to 36 months and a fine of $250, for the offense of Unlawful Restraint, Simple Assault and Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The sentence was made consecutive to a sentence imposed for delivery of a controlled substance for a total of 17 to 60 months.

Tyrone Garnett, 21, Towanda, Pa., was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in a Pennsylvania State Correctional Facility from eight months to 23 months, 29 days and a fine of $1000, for the offense of Delivery of a Controlled Substance. Trooper Robert Hutchison of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Garnett for the offense.

James Todd Place, 41, Ulster, Pa., was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility from four months to 23 months, 29 days and a fine of $800 for the offense of Simple Assault, a misdemeanor of the second degree and Harassment, two counts, both summary offenses. Corporal Norman Strauss of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Place following investigation of an incident that occurred in North Towanda Township on May 27, 2014. Place was convicted at a jury trial in August.

James Todd Place, 41, Ulster, Pa., was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility for 90 days, and County Intermediate Punishment for 24 months, and a fine of $200, for the offense of Simple Assault, a misdemeanor second degree. Trooper Michael Moser of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Place following investigation of an incident that occurred in Towanda Township. The sentencing was a resentencing following violation of the terms of an earlier sentence of a fine and probation supervision. The sentence was made consecutive to another sentence imposed for another incident.

Toris Garner, 37, Towanda, Pa., was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in a Pennsylvania State Correctional Facility from 66 months to 156 months, and a fine of $2000, for the offense of Aggravated Indecent Assault, a felony of the second degree, and Indecent Assault, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Trooper Jeffrey Sredenschek of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Garner following investigation of an incident that occurred in Standing Stone Township on Nov. 26, 2013. Garner was convicted of the charges at a jury trial.

Duane Queen, 20, of Troy, Pa., was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility from 72 hours to six months and a fine of $500, for the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol. Trooper David Sweeney of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Queen following investigation of an incident that occurred in Springfield Township.

Michael Mason, 19, of Ulster, Pa., was re-sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility to 90 days, County Intermediate Punishment for 12 months and a fine of $350, for the offense of Criminal Mischief. Trooper Miranda Musick of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Mason following investigation of an incident.

Nathan Gowin, 26, of Canton, Pa., was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility to 45 days, County Intermediate Punishment for 24 months; he will also lose his driver's license for 18 months, for the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Trooper Robert Edgerton of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Gowin following investigation of an incident that occurred in Monroeton Borough on Jan. 25, 2014.

Kathryn Shulas, 35, of Towanda, Pa., was sentenced to Probation for a term of 18 months and a fine of $950; she will also lose her driver's license for 18 months for the offense of Possession of a Controlled Substance, a misdemeanor, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a misdemeanor and Driving Under Suspension a summary offense.

Officer Travis Snyder of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Shulas for the offense on April 2, 2014.

And Trooper Kevin Hibson of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Shulas following investigation of an incident that occurred in Windham Township.

Candace Robinson, 21, of Laceyville, Pa., was sentenced to Probation for a term of 15 months and a fine of $200, for the offense of Disorderly Conduct, a misdemeanor of the third degree and Harassment a summary offense. Detective Albert Ogden of the Towanda Borough Police Department arrested Robinson for the offense on Feb. 18, 2014.

Michael Comstock, 23, of Columbia Crossroads, Pa., was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility from 30 days to 12 months and a fine of $500 for the offense of Disorderly Conduct, a misdemeanor of the third degree. Chief Daniel Reynolds of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Comstock for the offense on April 22, 2014.

Corey Stillman, 21, of Sayre, Pa., was sentenced to a term of imprisonment in the Bradford Correctional Facility for 90 days followed by County Intermediate Punishment for 24 months, a fine of $500, and restitution of $2,014, for the offense of Theft a misdemeanor of the first degree. Officer Travis Snyder of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Stillman for the offense on March 23, 2014.

Guilty Pleas

Shannon Reid, 39, Sayre, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Theft by Unlawful Taking, a misdemeanor of the first degree. Reid will be sentenced on Nov. 6, 2014, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Sergeant Daniel Reynolds of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Reid for the offense in July 2012 through March 2014.

Kathryn Shulas, 35, Rome, Pa., entered a plea of guilty to the offense of Possession of a Controlled Substance, a misdemeanor. Shulas will be sentenced, following preparation of a presentence report by the Bradford County Probation Department. Officer Travis Snyder of the Sayre Borough Police Department arrested Shulas for the offense in April 2014.

Placement in the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition (ARD) Program

Kevin Allen, 55, Monroeton, Pa., charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of 12 months. While on probation, Allen will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Allen must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade and attend a Victim Impact Panel and he will lose his Pennsylvania driving privilege for 30 days. Trooper William McDermott of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Allen for the offense.

George Lewis Jr., 73, Athens, Pa., charged with the offense of Reckless Endangering, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of nine months. While on probation, Lewis will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Lewis must perform 20 hours of community service. Trooper William McDermott of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Lewis for the offense.

Jordan Roach, 27, Ulster, Pa., charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of nine months. While on probation Roach will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Roach must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade and attend a Victim Impact Panel. Officer Derek Dekar of the Athens Borough Police Department filed the charges on May 10, 2014 for the offense in Athens Borough.

Christopher Carr, 30, Towanda, Pa., charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of nine months. While on probation Carr will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Carr must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade and attend a Victim Impact Panel and he will lose his Pennsylvania driving privilege for 60 days. Sergeant David Lantz of the Towanda Borough Police Department filed the charges on May 13, 2014 for the offense in Towanda Borough.

Jessica Arnold, 35, New Albany, Pa., charged with the offense of Driving under the Influence of Alcohol, was accepted into the ARD Program and placed on probation for a term of nine months. While on probation, Arnold will be subject to supervision by the Bradford County Probation Department, which supervision will include monitoring for drug or alcohol use. Additionally, Arnold must perform community service with the DUI Litter Brigade and attend a Victim Impact Panel and she will lose her Pennsylvania driving privilege for 30 days.

Trooper Robert Edgerton of the Pennsylvania State Police arrested Arnold for the offense.
