Domestic incident reported
Officers with the Athens Township Police Department responded to a call from dispatch regarding a domestic incident which turned violent at McCloe's Trailer Park on Sept. 30.
The female victim reported that she had been punched twice in the face by 27-year-old Nykeem J. Ponder of Philadelphia.
Officers located Ponder and placed him under arrest for simple assault and harassment.
He was prearraigned by Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw and received $5,000 bail. Ponder entered a guilty plea on the charge of harassment on Oct. 6. The simple assault charge was withdrawn.
Woman charged with retail theft
Athens Township Police responded to Walmart on Sept. 30 for a report of shoplifting.
Police arrested 19-year-old Paige A. McCabe of Towanda for retail theft and receiving stolen property. She will face these charges at a preliminary hearing with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on Oct. 28.
DUI charge reported
On Aug. 9, Pennsylvania State Police patrolling the area of South Waverly observed a white minivan pulled over on State Route 220 with its hazard lights activated.
In pulling over to provide aid to the motorist, troopers found 46-year-old Ernesto Rivera of Rochester in the driver's seat of the running vehicle. Troopers could detect the strong odor of alcohol emitting from Rivera's person. When questioned, Rivera did admit to consuming both alcohol and marijuana before operating his vehicle.
Rivera was arrested and charged with two counts of DUI: general impairment and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He will face these charges at a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on Nov. 7.
Man arrested for DUI
On Aug. 10, Pennsylvania State Police on patrol in Athens Township observed a pickup truck driving erratically on Glen Valley Road. Upon completing a traffic stop troopers determined the driver, Jeff A. Sanderson of Athens, to be under the influence of alcohol and he was placed under arrest.
Sanderson was charged with DUI: general impairment, DUI: highest rate of alcohol, driving on roadways lined for traffic and careless driving. He will face these charges at a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on Nov. 7.
Man charged with DUI
On Aug. 30, officers with the Athens Township Police Department arrested Todd M. Robinson, 53, of Sayre, as the result of a traffic stop on Front Street and Palmer Road.
The officers observed a vehicle driving erratically and at a high rate of speed when they exercised a traffic stop. Robinson was found to be intoxicated after failed completion of a battery of field sobriety tests.
Officers placed Robinson under arrest and charged him with DUI: highest rate of alcohol, maximum speed limit in established zones, careless driving, and driving on the right side of the roadway.
He is set to face these charges on Nov. 7 in front of Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw.
