Man charged with DUI
On Aug. 30, officers with the Athens Township Police Department arrested Todd M. Robinson, 53, of Sayre, as the result of a traffic stop on Front Street and Palmer Road.
The officers observed a vehicle driving erratically and at a high rate of speed when they exercised a traffic stop. Robinson was found to be intoxicated after failed completion of a battery of field sobriety tests.
Officers placed Robinson under arrest and charged him with DUI: highest rate of alcohol, maximum speed limit in established zones, careless driving, and driving on the right side of the roadway.
He is set to face these charges on Nov. 7 in front of Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw.
Check forgery results in multiple charges
Officers with the Athens Borough Police Department arrested James R. Rinehuls, 33, of Nichols on several charges as a result of check theft reported in the borough.
On Sept. 28, the daughter of an elderly victim reported to Athens Borough Police that her mother's checks had been unlawfully removed from her property and subsequently forged and cashed.
The victim was familiar with the name of one of the recipients of the forged checks. Rinehuls was located and admitted to be in possession of blank checks belonging to the victim. During the investigation regarding the stolen checks, information was given that implicated Rinehuls' involvement in several unsolved burglaries in the borough.
The information provided led police to obtain a search warrant for the residence of Rinehuls, where further stolen property was found.
Rinehuls was charged with felony burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, forgery and misdemeanor possession of an access device use fraud. He was arraigned on Oct. 8 by Magisterial District Judge Wilcox and received $80,000 bail. He was remanded to the Bradford County Prison pending his formal arraignment at 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 6.
Man charged with criminal mischief
On Sept. 29, Pennsylvania State Police cited Philip E. Brown III, 28 of Towanda for damaging a window, clock and pair of sunglasses at Future Community Support Services of Towanda. During the commission of the crime, Brown caused approximately $170 worth of damage. He was ordered to replace all damaged items
Vehicle damaged
Pennsylvania State Police reported that some time between Sept. 25-27 an unknown suspect caused damage to a vehicle parked on Old Stage Coach Road in Wyalusing Township.
Police are currently investigating the reported criminal mischief incident.
Home break-in reported
On Sept. 28, an unknown person entered a residence on CC Allis Road in Orwell Township without permission of the resident and overturned pieces of furniture. The Pennsylvania State Police are investigating this report of burglary.
Trees damaged
Multiple trees were reportedly cut down on a victim's property on Chilson Road in Albany Township, sometime between Sept. 29 and Oct. 2. Anyone with information regarding the commission of this crime is asked to contact Pennsylvania State Police in Towanda at (570) 265-2186.
Unlawful entry occurs
On Sept. 6, a male individual known to the victim forcibly entered a residence by pushing in a window mounted air conditioning unit in the master bedroom, causing damage to the victim's residence. A charge of criminal mischief/criminal trespass is pending by Pennsylvania State Police.
Unlawful attempt to purchase firearm occurs
Pennsylvania State Police are currently investigating the reported attempt to purchase a firearm by a prohibited individual at a location in Smithfield Township on June 17. During the attempted purchase, the individual allegedly falsified an application form stating that he/she was not prohibited from making a firearms purchase by law.
Man charged with failure to comply with sex offender registry
On Oct. 1, David M. Meyers, 52, of New Albany was charged with failure to comply with sex offender registry when he failed to register a vehicle he owned within the required three business days. The accused was arraigned on Oct. 7 at Magisterial District Justice Clark's office and released on non-monetary bail.
Firearms found
On Oct. 12, an individual arrived at the Pennsylvania State Police barracks in Towanda to report that he had found two rifles near the river. Anyone who might have more information regarding the rifles or how they got there is asked to contact the Pennsylvania State Police Station at (570) 265-2186.
