Crash results in charges for Dushore man
Two people suffered no injuries in a one vehicle crash that happened on Jan. 10 in Albany Township.
According to state police, Michael Briegel, 21, of Dushore was driving a 1998 Dodge Avenger on Overton Road in Albany Township when he crossed the center line of traffic and struck an embankment.
Both Briegel and his passenger, Spring Fassett of Dushore, were wearing their seatbelts and Briegel was charged with careless driving.
Waverly man uninjured in crash
According to state police, 66-year-old Lawrence Day of Waverly was uninjured after he swerved to avoid debris and struck a guide rail while driving a 2011 Nissan Sentra on Jan. 9 on State Route 220 in North Towanda.
Day was wearing his seatbelt and was not charged as a result of the crash.
Theft occurs in Tuscarora Township
Two Laceyville men were recently the victims of burglary and theft following an incident that occurred on Jan. 4 in Tuscarora Township.
According to state police, unknown actors entered the victim's sheds and vehicles and stole items from both.
Tunkhannock man charged after crash
A Tunkhannock man was charged with driving at an unsafe speed following a crash that occurred on Jan. 6 on State Route 6 near Wyalusing.
According to police, Spencer Ball, 25, attempted to pass a water truck while traveling west on State Route 6 when he lost control of the 2013 Subaru BRZ he was driving before striking a ditch and overturning.
Ball was wearing his seatbelt was not injured. Memorial EMS of Towanda and the Wyalusing Fire Company responded to the scene. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Jack Williams.
Sayre woman charged with theft
According to state police, Stacey Jo Garey, 38, of Sayre allegedly stole a $500 Christmas fund from the Asylum VFW on Nov. 11 in Asylum Township.
Man not injured in Wysox crash
According to state police, Brady Johnson, 20, of Towanda was injured following a crash that occurred on Jan. 7 in Wysox. Police say Johnson was driving his 2010 Chevrolet Silverado on State Route 187 when he slid on ice and struck a concrete barrier.
Johnson was wearing his seatbelt and was not charged as a result of the crash.
Towanda woman suffers minor injuries in crash
A Towanda woman was not charged following a crash that occurred on Jan. 6 in Monroe Township.
According to state police, Dawn Miller, 54, was traveling east on State Route 414 near Dunn Hill Road when the 2002 GMC Envoy she was driving lost traction due to the snow-covered road before striking an embankment and overturning.
Miller was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash and was transported to Memorial Hospital in Towanda via ambulance for treatment of minor injuries.
Bites result in charges
On Dec. 14, Kara M. Schultz, 23, of Rome, was arrested by Pennsylvania State Police and charged with simple assault and harassment after an argument turned physical.
State police responded to an emergency call from a residence in Windham Township where a victim stated that Schultz had vomited in the bedroom of their shared residence, which incited an argument between the two. During the fight, Schultz began to throw punches and at one point, while being held to the floor, Schultz bit the victim's fingers, causing cuts and swelling.
The fight stopped when Schultz went to lay down on a couch in another area of the home.
A witness to this incident relayed to police the same version of events as reported by the victim. Schultz was subsequently charged with simple assault and harassment. She was arraigned on Dec. 14 by Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark and received $5,000 bail. The assault charge was dismissed at a preliminary hearing and the harassment charges will be heard in non-traffic court.
Marijuana possession reported
On Dec. 19, Sayre Borough Police officers reported the arrest of Matthew J. Guinto, 24, of Binghamton, N.Y. for speeding and marijuana possession after a traffic stop conducted on North Lehigh Avenue.
Officers reported seeing a vehicle, driven by Guinto, traveling at a high rate of speed and initiated a traffic stop. During the stop, officers were able to detect a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and Guinto's person. During their questioning, Guinto consented to a search and admitted to possessing a small amount of marijuana.
He was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to obey maximum speed limits. He is set to face these charges at a preliminary hearing on Jan. 20, with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw.
Domestic argument leads to multiple charges
On Dec. 20, Athens Township Police responding to a 911 call reported the arrest of 24-year-old Sayre resident, Kevin R. Hoose Jr., after a physical altercation at a residence on Blue Spruce Lane.
During their investigation, officers found a female victim at the residence, upset and crying, and Hoose, visibly intoxicated. At the time, officers observed several bladed weapons in plain sight, and Hoose subsequently removed a pocket knife from his jeans pocket.
At this time, Hoose admitted that he and the victim were arguing and he claimed the victim struck him in the face. He then retaliated by breaking a glass vase. He then let officers know that he was a convicted felon.
Another officer spoke with the victim about her version of events and she relayed that Hoose had struck her in the face after she slapped him after a "smart comment."
It was during the investigation of this crime that officers discovered Hoose had purchased a 20 gauge shotgun earlier in the day from a co-worker, in violation of his parole.
Hoose was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, simple assault causing injury, prohibited from possessing offensive weapons, and harassment with physical contact. He was arraigned on Dec. 20 by Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton and received $85,000 bail. He will return to face these charges on Jan. 20. for a preliminary hearing.
Burglary arrest made
On Dec. 20, Sayre Borough Police reported the arrest of 52-year-old Lyndon E. Johnson of Sayre, the result of an attempted burglary.
Officers were dispatched to a residence on Cayuta Street for a possible burglary in progress. The complainant relayed to officers that they had observed someone in the residence with a flashlight and it sounded like they were trying to remove an air conditioner from a window. Upon their arrival, officers entered the residence and found a door ajar. Once inside, they made contact with Johnson, who was visibly intoxicated. He then stated that he "was just taking the air conditioner."
When asked if he had permission, he responded, "no."
Johnson was then placed under arrest for felony burglary, felony criminal trespass and theft by unlawful taking. He was arraigned on Dec. 20, and received $50,000 bail. He is set to return and face these charges on Jan. 20 for a preliminary hearing with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw.
DUIs
The following people were recently charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:
David Michael Roberts, 22, of Troy, by Pennsylvania State Police following a single-vehicle crash at approximately 1:05 a.m. Nov. 23 on Route 514 in Granville Township, approximately one and a half miles west of Bailey Corners Road.
According to court papers filed with the office of Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox of Troy, Roberts is also charged with a violation of "driving on roadways laned for traffic," a violation of "driving vehicle at safe speed," and careless driving. Police said his blood-alcohol content was .195 percent.
Wilcox said a fast-track waiver was scheduled for Roberts.
Suann Nicole Dyar, 32, of Columbia Cross Roads, by Pennsylvania State Police, who police said was arrested for operating a motor vehicle at 11:11 p.m. Nov. 7 on Seymour Drive in Columbia Cross Roads while under "suspicion of DUI."
Police said charges were filed through District Court 42-3-01.
