Wellsboro man faces drug charges
A Wellsboro man has been charged with possession with the intent to deliver and delivery of a controlled substance; criminal conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance following an incident that occurred on Feb. 11, 2014, in Monroe Township.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark's office, Christopher Joshua Allen, 26, was charged after selling cocaine valued at approximately $340 to another individual.
Allen was arraigned by Clark in lieu of $25,000 bail and a preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 28.
Dispute turns physical in Towanda
A Tennessee man and woman face charges of simple assault and harassment following an incident that occurred on Jan. 7 in Towanda.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark's office, Charles Boyd Blair, 51, and Rhonda Gail Dorton, 47, were charged after a dispute turned physical, resulting in injuries to both. Upon arriving at the scene, police observed an open and bleeding wound over Blair's eye, which was caused when Dorton struck him with an unknown object. Dorton was observed to have scratch marks on her face, chest and left forearm, which were caused by Blair.
Blair and Dorton were both arraigned before Clark in lieu of $10,000 bail and face preliminary hearings scheduled for Jan. 14.
Drug charges filed for Towanda woman
A Towanda woman faces charges of the use of or possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance following an incident that occurred on July 16 in Sheshequin Township.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark's office, police arrived at a residence in Sheshequin Township to conduct a search as well as arrest the male resident that lived there. Upon searching the residence, police discovered Shelby Blake Nonnemacher, 33, of Towanda and another male in a back bedroom with multiple substances and instruments of drug paraphernalia, including three plastic wraps of bath salts, one zip lock baggie of bath salts, a marijuana pipe, one metal spoon with residue later discovered to be heroin, a metal marijuana grinder, two hypodermic needles and two plastic baggies with drug residue.
Under a plea agreement during a preliminary hearing, Nonnemacher pled guilty to the misdemeanor of one count of the use of or possession with the intent to use drug paraphernalia.
Elmira man faces theft charges
An Elmira man faces charges of theft from a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property following several incidences that occurred in late November and early December.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark's office, a female victim contacted state police and said that on Nov, 24 she noticed her cigarettes were missing from her vehicle. She said that the next day, her purse was missing from the vehicle.
On Dec. 3, a stolen vehicle was recovered with the victim's purse inside. Police charged William Shawn Colbath, 49, with the theft.
Colbath has been sent a summons for a preliminary hearing scheduled for Feb. 18.
Towanda man faces multiple charges
A Towanda man faces charges of driving under the influence; failure to obey traffic control devices; failure to activate his turning signal; simple assault; disorderly conduct and harassment following an incident that occurred on Jan. 4 in Towanda.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark's office, police performed a traffic stop on Ramon Louis Cruz-Fuentes, 44, after observing him traveling at a high rate of speed. After a number of field sobriety tests, Cruz-Fuentes was arrested for suspicion of DUI and transported to Memorial Hospital in Towanda for a blood test.
Following the blood test, Cruz-Fuentes was transported to his residence in Towanda. Approximately two minutes after police left the residence, County Dispatch reported that Cruz-Fuentes was fighting his wife and step-son. Upon arriving back at the scene, police observed Cruz-Fuentes fighting his step-son, who appeared to be defending himself. Police were forced to use a taser on Cruz-Fuentes before taking him into custody.
Cruz-Fuentes was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw in lieu of $25,000 bail and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 14.
DUI charges
The following people were recently charged with driving under the influence:
Jason Lee Brown Jr., 21, of Troy has also been charged with driving on the wrong side of the road; driving at an unsafe speed; careless driving and failing to notify the police of an accident, according to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark's office.
Police arrived at a crash scene on Dec. 19 on State Route 6 in Burlington Township and found a vehicle overturned on its roof with no registration plate, according to state police. Approximately one half of a mile west, police discovered Brown and the male passenger he was with walking down the road. Upon interviewing Brown, police detected a strong odor of alcohol and glassy, bloodshot eyes. A blood test conducted at Memorial Hospital in Towanda eventually revealed Brown's blood alcohol content to be 0.116 percent.
Brown has been sent a summons for a preliminary hearing scheduled for Feb. 13.
Terry Lynn Murray, 49, of Towanda has also been charged with DUI of the highest rate of alcohol and careless driving following an incident that occurred on Dec. 16 in Towanda.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark's office, on that date police responded to a call of an unwanted person at a residence. When police arrived at the scene, Murray was observed in his vehicle that was parked in the driveway of the residence. After several field sobriety tests, Murray was taken into custody and transported to Memorial Hospital in Towanda, where a blood test eventually revealed his blood alcohol content to be 0.225 percent.
Murray has been sent a summons for a preliminary hearing scheduled for Feb. 13.
