Two charged with false reports in Wyalusing

Edon William Babcock, 36, of Towanda, and Brian Keith Roberts, 38, of Wyalusing, were charged with falsely reporting a stolen vehicle, police said.

The charges stem from a July 15 incident where Roberts was driving a truck loaned to him by Babcock and crashed it on state Route 367 in the early morning hours, police said.

According to police, Roberts was driving with a suspended license and called Babcock for a ride and told Babcock he needed to leave the scene to avoid arrest, according to police.

Police said Roberts admitted to Babcock to drinking when the accident occurred.

Roberts reported in the afternoon of July 15 that the truck had been stolen, according to police.

In mid December Babcock admitted the truck was not stolen, police said.

Roberts also faces a charge of driving with a suspended license, police said.

Preliminary hearings for Roberts and Babcock will be held March 10 at 1 p.m. and 1:15 p.m., respectively in Wysox District Court.

Wysox man charged after stealing from Wysox Twp. buildings

Thirty-seven-year-old Timothy Richard Short sold scrap metal he stole from a dumpster outside Wysox Township buildings on Hillside Drive on June 22, police said.

Short asked a Wysox Township employee if he could take the scrap metal, but the employee told Short it was promised to Towanda Iron and Metal, according to police. The employee later checked the dumpster where the metal was to find it missing, police said.

Police said after reviewing surveillance video, the employee saw two men take the metal the day before.

When confronted with the video footage on Feb. 5, Short admitted he should not have taken the scrap metal, police said.

Short's preliminary hearing begins at 2:45 p.m. March 10 in Wysox District Court.

No one injured

State police at Towanda said Rebecca L. Keene, 20, of Canton, was not injured in a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 8:06 a.m. Feb. 17 on Route 414 in LeRoy Township.

According to police, she was traveling east in the eastbound lane, when she lost control of her Chevrolet Tahoe while traversing a left curve during a snowstorm. Police said the vehicle slid off the north side of the roadway, where it struck a large rock, causing it to roll over one time onto its roof.

Police said Keene was charged with a violation of "roadways laned for traffic."
