Man charged with prohibited offensive weapon
Bryan Alan McGuinness, 24, of Wysox, faces a preliminary hearing at 3:15 p.m. Feb. 24 before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton of Wysox on a charge of prohibited offensive weapon for an incident that occurred at 12:15 a.m. Jan. 14 on Golden Mile Road in Wysox Township, according to court papers.
In an affidavit, Pennsylvania State Police Cpl. Norman Strauss said he was assigned to investigate a domestic dispute at the location. Police were handed metal knuckles by a person at the scene, and told they belonged to McGuinness. Police were told that McGuinness made statements that he was going to use them on a man.
McGuinness was sent a summons.
Man charged with indecent exposure
Austin Christopher Krudup, 20, of Rome, faces a preliminary hearing at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 24 before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton of Wysox on charges of indecent exposure and harassment for an incident that took place at 7:57 p.m. Jan. 11 on State Line Road in Windham Township, according to court papers.
In an affidavit, Pennsylvania State Police Cpl. Norman Strauss said he was assigned to investigate a domestic dispute at the location. Police were told that Krudup was throwing items around the house and damaged property. In addition, police were told that Krudup threatened to kill someone and burn the house down, and then went outside the house and pulled his pants down, exposing his genitals, and did a dance.
Police said he was sent a summons.
Three charged with for retail theft
On Jan. 26, Athens Township Police reported the arrest of 33-year-old Victoria L. Trindle of Sayre, 18-year-old Mitchel R. Smith of Canton, and 37-year-old Douglas E. Smith of Gillett, after a complaint from Walmart associates the three had stolen items from the store and fled in a silver Ford F-150.
Officers discovered the vehicle behind the Wendy's restaurant and approached the three individuals. As the officer was speaking with the three, he noticed several miscellaneous items scattered about the drivers compartment of the truck. The officers asked Douglas Smith, who was in the drivers seat, if he had any stolen items from Walmart, to which he stated, "no." At this time, Douglas Smith was asked to exit the vehicle and show a receipt for the items which he had purchased from Walmart. As he exited, the officers noted the presence of even more merchandise behind the seat and in a new garbage container in the rear bed of the truck. Mitchel Smith was subsequently found with various items of unpaid merchandise under his clothing and made a voluntary statement, "big deal you caught me with it," according to the report.
The three were taken to the Athens Township Police station and associates from Walmart arrived to identify that both Mitchel and Douglas Smith had been observed taking items from the store without payment, the report continued. Further, the employees stated that Trindle was behind the wheel of the truck and drove the two men away from the store with the unpaid merchandise.
Walmart later supplied video stills showing the three individuals each took items of unpaid merchandise from the store.
Douglas Smith, Mitchel Smith and Victoria Trindle were each charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property. Trindle was additionally charged with driving with a suspended license, DUI related. The defendants are set to answer to the charges at a preliminary arraignment with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on March 10.
Woman faces drug charges
Athens Borough Police reported the arrest of 27 year-old Rebecca Crane, after an investigation regarding a reported overdose of a 19-year-old at a residence on West Pine Street in Athens Borough on June 6. Witness statements taken during the investigation show that Crane sold 10 bags of purported heroin to the 19-year-old in the parking lot of a Dandy Mini Mart for $120.
Crane was charged with three felony counts including: manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver; conspiracy to manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver; and intentionally possessing a controlled counterfeit substance by a person not registered.
Crane was arraigned on these charges by Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton on Feb. 2, and was remanded to the Bradford County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 bail. She has since been released on a $5,000 bond and will return to court for a preliminary hearing on March 3.
Scrap metal theft
Athens Borough Police reported the arrest of 28-year-old Brandon Sweet of Waverly after he admitted to taking copper items from Camco Manufacturing, his place of employment. The incident was reported to police after video surveillance showed Sweet placing the items in his lunch box while at work, according to the police.
As he was presented with the evidence against him, Sweet admitted to taking the copper and has since returned the items, police reported.
Sweet was charged with one misdemeanor count of theft by unlawful taking. He is set to face Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on March 10, to enter a plea to the charge.
Driver charged with drug possession
On Jan. 20, officers with the Athens Township Police Department pulled into the parking lot of the Xtra Mart on Elmira Street and observed a male known to them, Dustin J. Platt, 34, of Milan, in a vehicle parked in the spot at the front of the store. As officers approached the vehicle to speak with the driver, they observed on his lap, in plain view, a hypodermic needle, tin cap with white powder in it and four small square bags, according to the police. Platt admitted to officers that he was in the process of "shooting up" and that it was heroin in the tin cap, the report said.
He was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with intentionally possessing a controlled counterfeit substance by a person not registered and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was remanded to the Bradford County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 bail.
Platt has since been released on $20,000 bail and will return to court to face these charges, as well as several stemming from a November DUI crash also involving heroin, at a preliminary hearing to take place on April 7 with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw.
