Binghamton resident charged with theft in Towanda

Tori J. Chapman, 20, of Binghamton, N.Y., has been charged with stealing $40 from Ciara Nicholson of Towanda, police said.

On July 18, Chapman and two males arrived at Nicholson's residence in a truck with a freezer and tried to sell her meat products, police said.

While in the house, Chapman asked Nicholson for a tampon, which Nicholson provided to her, police said.

Chapman then went into a bathroom in the home, where she removed Nicholson's wallet from her purse and stole $40 from the wallet, police said.

Chapman has been charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property, police said.

Chapman was also charged with burglary, because she had entered Nicholson's home with the intention of committing a crime, police said.

Chapman has been sent a summons which orders her to appear for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 4 in Towanda District Court.
