Gillett woman charged with retail theft

Krystal Lee Griffin, 34, of Gillett, was charged with retail theft by Athens Township Police after stealing from Walmart in Sayre, Athens police said.

Police were notified by Walmart's asset protection associate on Sept. 5 that Griffin was apprehended in the store, police said.

The associate said she witnessed Griffin place baby formula and bottles into her backpack and leave the store without paying for the items, police said.

Griffin told police she took the items, totalling $52.02, to give as a gift to a friend but later admitted they were for her toy baby doll, police said.

Griffin was arraigned March 31 and will appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on April 7 for her preliminary hearing.

Theft from Walmart reported

April Lynn Duva, 32, of Towanda, was charged with retail theft by Athens Township Police on March 11 after taking $92.54 worth of merchandise from the Sayre Walmart, Athens police said.

Walmart's asset protection associate saw Duva take clothes from the clothing section to the pet department, where she placed the items in her purse, police said.

Duva went to the self checkout register where she put a clearance sticker on a pair of pants, which took the price down from $19.99 to $3.00, police said.

Duva did not scan eight other items before leaving the store, police said.

Duva has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on May 5 for her preliminary hearing.

Makeup, sock theft lead to charges

Margaret Mary Webster, 55, of Gillett, was charged with retail theft by Athens Township Police after being witnessed taking several items from the Sayre Walmart, Athens police said.

On March 26, Webster was seen by the asset protection associate putting several makeup items in her coat pocket and a pair of socks in her purse, police said.

She then left the store without paying for the items, police said.

Webster will appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on May 5 for her preliminary hearing.

Three charged with drug violations

Sayre Borough Police charged three Valley residents with drug charges after witnessing the three at the Spring Street Dandy Mini Mart in Sayre, Sayre police said.

Ricky D. Peters, 31, of Sayre; Theresa D. Strope, 50, of Sayre; and Nicole A. Searles, 34, of Waverly were charged with bath salt-related charges including paraphernalia possession, according to police.

Peters was also charged with driving under the influence of bath salts and driving with a suspended license, police said.

All three were charged on April 1, police said.

Peters, Strope, and Searles will appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on April 14 for their preliminary hearings.
