Waverly woman charged with drug, paraphernalia possession

Emily Dawn Benjamin, 25, of Waverly, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia by Athens Township police on April 23, Athens police said.

According to police, Benjamin was taken into custody on a warrant when police saw her in the parking lot of the station on Herrick Avenue in Athens.

Police said upon entering the station, Benjamin put her purse down and in plain view in the purse were a glass pipe, a hypodermic syringe, and a Benzomatic torch.

Benjamin admitted to police that the items were hers and that she used them to do bath salts, police said.

Police said Benjamin produced a baggie with a white powder in it that she said was bath salts.

Benjamin has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on June 9 for her preliminary hearing.

Crash reported

State police at Towanda said a two-vehicle crash occurred at 1 p.m. April 2 on Route 14 in Canton Township.

Police did not identify the drivers by name in their news release. This information was left blank in the "people involved" section of the news release. No names, ages, or addresses were provided.

Police would only say that a 2003 Cadillac CTS and 1992 Ford F160 were the vehicles involved in the crash. Police said the driver of the Cadillac was charged with a violation of "duties at stop signs."

According to police, the Ford was traveling south on Route 14, approaching the intersection with McMurray Road, and the Cadillac was making a left turn from McMurray Road onto Route 14 South and failed to yield to the Ford.

Police said the Cadillac then struck the Ford in the bed area of the vehicle. After impact, both vehicles continued traveling on Route 14 South before coming to a stop just south of McMurray Road, police said.

Police said the Cadillac had minor damage to its front end and the Ford had minor damage to its bed.

The Canton Volunteer Fire Department and Western Alliance assisted at the scene.

Man charged with harassment

Patrick Michael Stapleton, 47, of Little Egg Harbor, N.J. has been charged with harassment after repeatedly contacting Katrina Dawn Stapleton, 34, of Laceyville.

Police said Patrick Stapleton was told to stop contacting Katrina Stapleton, but continued to do so.

The incident that resulted in charges being filed occurred on April 29, at 8 a.m. at a residence in Tuscarora Township.

Criminal mischief in Stevens Twp.

State police in Towanda are currently investigating a report of criminal mischief that occurred on May 1 at 11:53 a.m. on State Route 706 in Stevens Township.

According to police, an unknown person drove through a yard owned by Patrick Henry Sandor, 52.

State police said there are no suspects at this time.

Man injured in Wyalusing Twp. crash

Russell E. Malina, 49, of Hop Bottom, Pa. was charged with careless driving after he failed to negotiate a left hand curve, travelled off the roadway and into a culvert on April 30.

Police said Malina was driving a 2014 Kenworth Truck on State Route 706 in Wyalusing Township when the accident occurred.

Malina was transported to Robert Packer Hospital with moderate injuries, state police said.

Driver charged in one vehicle accident

Sara E. Slater, 33, of Towanda suffered minor injuries during a one vehicle crash on April 30 on Route 6 in Wyalusing Township.

State police said Slater was charged with failing to stay in her lane after the vehicle she was driving, a 2005 Jeep Liberty, veered off the roadway and into a berm.

Slater was transported via Memorial EMS to Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital, police said.

Man accused of selling heroin

A Springville man was cited by state police recently on a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton, John Matthew Barnes, 36, has also been charged with possession of a controlled substance; and criminal use of a communication facility.

Barnes is accused of selling heroin to an undercover police informant on July 10, 2014 at the parking lot of the Dandy Mini Mart on U.S. Route 6 in Wyalusing for $320. Barnes has been sent a summons to appear before Judge Wheaton on May 5.

Truck leaves road

No injuries were reported when a one-vehicle accident occurred recently on Lake Road in Rome Township.

According to state police, Mark S. Roy, 56, of Athens was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck north on Lake Road around 7 p.m. on April 5. Police said Roy lost control of his vehicle, causing it to leave the edge of the roadway. The pickup struck a mailbox and "No Passing" sign before re-entering the roadway, and continuing north from the scene. The pickup eventually stopped at the parking lot of North Rome Christian School, where it was towed from the scene.

Theft reported

State police are investigating a theft that occurred recently at the Miller Laundry/Carwash in Dushore.

According to police, unknown persons used a key to steal money from the soda machine. Police said the incident occurred between 2 p.m. on April 28 and 7:30 a.m. on April 29. Anyone with information about the incident is requested to contact the state police at Laporte at (570) 946-4610.

Car rolls over

No injuries were reported when a one-vehicle crash occurred recently on U.S. Route 6 in North Towanda Township.

State police reported that Thomas R. Heasley, 26, of Towanda, was driving a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix west on Route 6 around 4:45 p.m. on May 1. Police said Heasley lost control of his vehicle near the intersection of Saco Road, possibly due to steering system failure. The car crossed over the eastbound lane of travel and struck an embankment on the driver's side. The car then continued traveling west, and rolled over before coming to final rest on its roof.

The Pontiac was towed from the scene by Fulmer's Towing. State police were assisted at the scene by an ambulance from Memorial Hospital, as well as Towanda Township Fire Department and fire police.

Man hurt in collision

A man was slightly injured recently in a two-vehicle collision on state Route 414 in Franklin Township.

According to state police, Vonada W. Ranck, 63, of Watsontown, was driving a 1995 Jeep Cherokee west on Route 414 around 9:20 a.m. on April 28. Traveling in the opposite direction, according to the report, was a 2003 International Harvester 7500 operated by James A. Yoder, 65, of Belleville.

Police said that as the Cherokee approached the Harvester, it crossed into the eastbound lane of travel, causing it to strike the Harvester on the driver's side fender and door. The Jeep then turned sideways, partially in the east and west bound lanes of travel, rolling over multiple times at the impact before coming to rest on its roof.

Police said that Ranck was cited for crossing the center lane of traffic. Ranck suffered a minor injury in the crash, but it was not reported if he received medical treatment.
