Police looking for information on scattered garbage

State police in Towanda received a report of scattered rubbish on April 16 at 7:55 p.m. on Weston Road in Monroe Township.

According to police, the garbage was thrown over an embankment off the side of Weston Road.

Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at (570) 265-2186.

Hit and run investigation

State police are looking for information relating to a hit and run that occurred at 2:56 p.m. in the parking lot of Colonial Towers in North Towanda Township.

According to police, an unknown person hit a parked and unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot.

Police said there are no suspects or vehicle descriptions relating to the incident.

Wysox man charged with DUI

Charles Michael Howell, 38, of Wysox has been charged with driving under the influence relating to a traffic stop that occurred on April 22 at 11:44 p.m. on State Route 187 less than a mile north of State Route 6 in Wysox Township.

Police said Howell was stopped for failing to maintain travel within a single lane. During the course of the stop, Howell displayed signs of impairment and intoxication and was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

According to police, Howell was then placed into custody for DUI and transported to Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital for blood testing.

Waverly man charged after 2013 drug deal

Sayre Borough Police charged Kevin Charles Shipman, 26, of Waverly, with delivery and possession of a controlled substance as well as criminal use of a communication facility after an Oct. 21, 2013 drug deal, Sayre police said.

According to police, a confidential informant told police they made arrangements to purchase 6 grams of bath salts from Shipman.

Police said Shipman arranged the sale via cell phone and planned to meet the informant at the Spring Street Dandy Mini Mart in Sayre.

After the informant met with Shipman, they handed police a cigarette pack containing a plastic bag which contained a white powder, police said.

Shipman was remanded to Bradford County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Shipman will appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on May 12 for his preliminary hearing.

Man, woman charged with drug, paraphernalia possession

Athens Borough Police charged Stephanie Jill Evans, 32, of Athens, and Antoine Jesten Butler, 28, of Waverly, with drug possession and paraphernalia possession on April 24, Athens police said.

According to police, Evans and Butler were seen sitting in a car with the lights and engine off in the Twin Rivers parking lot on Short Street in Athens at about 11:41 p.m.

Police approached the car and upon Butler opening the door, a cloud of smoke smelling like burnt marijuana rolled out of the car, police said.

Evans and Butler admitted to smoking marijuana in the car and told police they used a glass pipe, which they handed over, to smoke it, police said.

Police said Butler provided them with a baggie containing a green leafy substance.

Evans and Butler have been issued summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on June 9 for their preliminary hearings.

Vinyl records stolen in Sheshequin

Towanda state police said Megan Fairchild, 35, of Towanda, is accused of stealing vinyl records.

Police said between Sept. 1 and March 30, Fairchild took records from a Wallyworld Lane location in Sheshequin Township without permission from the victim.

One injured in Rome crash

A woman was sent to the Robert Packer Hospital after a two-car crash on North Rome Road in April, according to Towanda state police.

Police said Kelli A. Morningstar, 44, of Athens, was heading north when the 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt she was driving slid and crossed the solid double yellow lines where it struck the 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt that Barbara A. Casselbury, 62, of Athens, was driving.

Police said the 2008 Cobalt hit the front driver's side of the 2009 Cobalt with its front driver's side corner.

Furman and Jones towed both vehicles from the scene and Casselbury was taken to Robert Packer Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Morningstar was cited for failure to obey traffic lanes.

Window broken in Ridgebury

Towanda state police said between April 24 and April 27, an unknown actor or actors broke a window of a cabin on Berwick Turnpike.

Police said the victim found the cabin's door window smashed out.

Juvenile girl charged with disorderly conduct

Towanda state police charged a 15-year-old Smithfield Township girl with disorderly conduct, state police said.

According to police, the teen ran away from her residence on April 26 at about 2 p.m.

Chickens stolen from Sheshequin pen

Between 6:30 a.m. April 26 and 8 p.m. April 27, Towanda state police said 10 chickens were stolen from a pen on Dairy Lane in Sheshequin Township.

Police said the pen was locked and no predator damage was observed on the pen.

Equipment, keys stolen from Sheshequin construction site

Towanda state police said an unknown actor or actors stole two keys from excavators, a welding helmet, and copper leads from a construction site on state Route 1043 in Sheshequin Township between 8:30 p.m. April 30 and 6:30 a.m. May 1.

The victims, Dobrinski Brothers Inc. and Sapp Drilling reported the windshield and front passenger side windows of a truck were smashed as well, police said.

Burglary reported

State police are investigating a burglary that occurred recently in Sullivan County.

According to police, the incident occurred between 7 a.m. and noon on April 30 at property on White Deer Lane in Colley Township, owned by Peter John Zarelli of West Chester, Pa. Police said the perpetrators gained access to the property by forcefully smashing a lock open.

Two injured in crash

Two people were injured recently during a two-vehicle crash that occurred recently on U.S. Route 220 in North Towanda Township.

According to state police, Paul S. Sweitzer, 65, of Towanda, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala north on 220 around 3:35 p.m. on April 30. Traveling in front of the Sweitzer vehicle in the same direction was a 2012 Ford Edge operated by Paula L. Whitney, 48, of Athens.

Police said the Edge began to slow down as the vehicle in front of it began to make a left turn. In the process, police said, Sweitzer could not stop his vehicle in time, causing the front of the Impala to strike the rear of the Edge. Both vehicles came to rest in the northbound lane of travel.

Sweitzer suffered minor injuries from the crash, while Whitney suffered moderate injuries, but it was not reported if they required medical assistance. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts when the collision occurred. Police said Sweitzer will be cited for operating a vehicle at an unsafe speed.

Two accused of harassment

Two people were cited for harassment by the state police recently, following an incident in Wysox Township.

According to police, Cory Lee Bride, 28, of Towanda, and Madison Rogers, 20, of Towanda, were charged with the above offense on April 30. The two are accused of verbally harassing each other on Leisure Drive.

Store cited for false alarms

The AT&T store at the Bradford Towne Center in Wysox Township was recently cited by the state police for false alarms.

According to police, a false alarm was reported at the store on May 1, around 12:30 a.m. Police said this is the fourth false alarm reported on the premises within a 12-month period. The store was charged with control of alarm devices and automatic dialing devices.

Catalytic convertors stolen

State police are investigating the theft of two catalytic convertors from vehicles that occurred recently in Wysox Township.

According to police, the incident occurred between 4:30 p.m. on April 28 and 7 a.m. on April 29. Police said the thieves cut and removed the catalytic convertors from vehicles owned by Midwest Hose and Specialty, and Aaron M. Horner of Sayre as they were parked on Wickwire Lane. Anyone with information about the incident is requested to contact the state police at (570) 265-2186.

Break-in attempted

An attempted burglary was reported recently at the Endless Mountains Vet Center in Dushore.

According to state police, the incident occurred between 9 p.m. on April 24 to 8 a.m. on April 28. Police said the perpetrators attempted to gain entry to the building by forcing the back door with a pry bar, but were unsuccessful.

Anyone with information about the incident is requested to contact the state police at Laporte, referring to incident number P02-0809633.

Two charged with criminal mischief

Two out-of-state men accused of causing extensive damage to a room at the Bradford County B&B Inn have each been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark.

According to information filed in Clark's office, Joshua L. Hussey, 27, of Mexico, Maine, and Jeremy J. Brooks, age unknown, of Buckfield, Maine, have each been charged by Towanda police with criminal mischief. The two men have been accused of doing extensive damage to a room they occupied at the Bradford County B&B Inn on March 31. Among the damage reported by the manager included a mattress that was urinated on, garbage strewn about the room, a rug with a large stain on it, and a refrigerator left open. Cost to repair the damage was estimated at $1,433.

Police reported contacting the two men, who indicated they would make restitution. However, no restitution was received as of April 7, according to the report, and the charge was later filed against the two men.

Both men are scheduled to appear before Judge Clark for their preliminary hearings on June 3.

Woman charged with harassment

A Towanda woman has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark to answer a charge of harassment by communication.

According to information filed in Clark's office, Melanie McGuire, 41, has also been charged by Towanda police with harassment by communication for using threatening language.

McGuire is accused of sending multiple text messages - some containing threatening language - to her ex-boyfriend, despite being instructed several times to stop doing so. After reviewing information provided by the ex-boyfriend, police determined that McGuire had called him 82 times over an eight-hour period on April 13. Some included text messages stating: "If u with someone else I'll kill you (expletive deleted)" and "After I run you over."

McGuire is scheduled to appear before Judge Clark on June 3.

Rubbish scattering

State police are looking for the persons who recently discarded two damaged televisions on Old Plank Road in Towanda Township.

Police said the incident occurred around 4:31 p.m. on April 15. Anyone with information about the incident is requested to contact the state police at (570) 265-2186.

Hit-and-run reported

A man accused of leaving the scene of an accident without reporting to the authorities has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark to answer a charge of accident involving damage to an attendant vehicle.

According to information filed at Clark's office, David Burdick, 32, has also been charged by Towanda police with abandonment of a vehicle; reckless driving; and careless driving.

Burdick was charged following a hit-and-run accident that occurred around 1:25 a.m. on March 28 at 616 Main St. Police said they spoke to the owner of the vehicle that had been struck. Two days later, Burdick contacted the investigating officers, admitting that he had been driving in the area when the accident occurred, but had not realized he had struck another vehicle at the time.

Burdick is scheduled to appear before Judge Clark on May 29.

Canoe located

State police at Laporte have reported recovering a fiberglass canoe from a property in Cherry Township, Sullivan County.

Police said the canoe was recovered on April 15, and may have possibly come from the Lake Mokama area of Sullivan County. Anyone wishing to claim ownership of the canoe may or anyone that has information about it may contact the state police at (570) 946-4610.
