Male injured in Towanda Twp. ATV crash
Caleb F. Bennett, 20, of Towanda suffered a minor injury in an ATV accident on Liberty Corners Road in Towanda Township, police said.
Bennett was driving the ATV west on Liberty Corners Road at 3:30 p.m. on May 7 when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the vehicle on a right curve, police said.
The vehicle struck a guard rail on the eastbound shoulder of the road, and Bennett went over the handlebars, state police said.
Bennett was cited for driving an ATV on a road that was not posted for ATV use, state police at Towanda said.
Towanda man charged with aggravated assault
Timothy R. Thurston Jr. of Towanda has been charged with aggravated assault, burglary, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct, and public drunkenness, police said.
The charges stem from two incidents on May 24 in which the 33-year-old Thurston was fighting with Marc D. Petrucci of Towanda, police said.
Following the second incident, which occurred in Petrucci's apartment, Petrucci was unconscious and bleeding heavily from his face and head, Towanda police said. Petrucci was transported to a local hospital for treatment, police said.
The first incident occurred along Bridge Street in Towanda, police said.
Petrucci, 29, was charged with attempted simple assault, disorderly conduct, harassment, and public drunkenness. police said.
The burglary charge was filed against Thurston because he had entered Petrucci's apartment without permission, in order to assault Petrucci, police said.
Thurston was arraigned in district court on May 25. Thurston was then sent to the Bradford County jail in lieu of $20,000 bail. Petrucci has been sent a summons ordering him to appear in Towanda District Court for a preliminary hearing on July 1.
Towanda Police Chief Randy Epler said Thursday that Petrucci was discharged from the hospital the next day and is now "fine."
Monroe Township man charged following heroin incident
Brandon James Oakley, 27, of Monroe Township has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after police responded to a report of a drug overdose on Birdsall Road in Monroe Township, police said.
Police said they found Oakley at the scene, who by that time was in a stable state. State police said that Oakley told them that he was using heroin.
Various pieces of drug paraphernalia that Oakley had allegedly been using were recovered from the scene, police said.
The incident occurred at 11:40 a.m. on May 23, state police at Towanda said.
Business burglarized
State police at Towanda said that Cuz Excavating in Canton Township was burglarized sometime between 7:30 a.m. April 16 and 8 a.m. April 20.
According to police, a black Beretta Neos U22 pistol was stolen.
The victim is David Lawrence Ward, 49, of Canton, who owns the business, police said.
Police said they are investigating.
DUI charge
The following person was recently charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:
Sheryl Ann Scalley, 56, of Sayre, by Athens Township Police, on June 2, on U.S. Route 220 in Athens Township. Scalley was also charged with driving with a suspended license, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, and driving without a valid registration. Scalley later refused to submit to a blood test to determine her blood alcohol content. Scalley will appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on June 9 for her preliminary hearing.
