Towanda man victim of fraud

Alan David Douglas, 91, of Towanda was the recent victim of fraud, police said.

A male, whose identity is unknown, posed as a computer technician, resulting in the victim giving him his personal bank information, police said. The victim was also charged a sum of money, as part of this fraud, police said.

State police said they are investigating the incident, which occurred at 1 p.m. on June 10, according to the state police at Towanda.

Theft occurs in Wysox Twp.

Someone stole three painkiller prescriptions from a Towanda woman's vehicle while it was parked along Golden Mile Road in Wysox Township, police said.

The theft occurred sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on June 12, state police at Towanda said.

Towanda female charged with making false report to police

Carlinda Marie Benditt, 20, of Towanda has been charged with the second-degree misdemeanor of knowingly making a false report to the police that accuses another individual of committing a crime, police said.

On May 22, Benditt told police that a male acquaintance of hers had raped her, Towanda police said.

During the police's investigation of the alleged rape, police began to strongly suspect that Benditt's account of the alleged rape was untruthful, police said.

On June 3, Benditt told police that she had not been raped and that she had made up the story about being raped, Towanda Police Chief Randy Epler said. She also signed a written confession that she had lied about being raped, police said.

Benditt has been sent a summons which orders her to appear for a preliminary hearing on July 8 before Towanda Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark.

Police investigating Ulster assault

Towanda state police said they are investigating an indecent assault incident that took place between 11:30 p.m. on June 6 and 4:30 a.m. June 7 at an Ulster residence.

Police said the 25-year-old suspect had indecent contact with a 20-year-old victim.

Litchfield crash injures driver

Carla D. Davidson, 43, of Monroeton, suffered minor injuries after crashing a 2002 Kia Sportage on June 18 on Rome Road in Litchfield Township, Towanda state police said.

Police said Davidson was traveling north on Rome Road when she lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle drove off the road and into a roadside ditch, police said.

Police said Davidson was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.

Rome man assaulted

Towanda state police said a Rome man was assaulted on June 21 between 1:30 a.m. and 2:15 a.m. in Ridgebury Township.

Police said an unknown actor struck the victim in the face and fled the scene.

Laptop, camera taken

State police at Towanda said a Dell laptop, Pro Scan, Sony digital camera and a set of dishes worth a total of approximately $400 were allegedly stolen in a burglary that occurred sometime between 12:01 a.m. May 17 and 11:59 p.m. June 5 at a residence on Whispering Pines Drive in Wells Township.

Police said the victim is Ashley L. Smith, 29, of Millerton.

According to police, the burglar or burglars entered the residence by unknown means.

Man charged with 'failure to comply'

State police at Towanda said David Miller, 46, of Canton, has been charged with "failure to comply with requirements of sexual offenders" as he failed to update his employment, as required by Megan's Law.

Police said the incident occurred Jan. 30 in North Towanda Township.

Man not injured

State police at Towanda said no injuries were reported in a one-vehicle crash that occurred at 2:30 a.m. June 4 on Lower Mountain Road in Canton Township.

Police said Dale S. Anderson of Canton was traveling east, when his Ford F150 struck a cow in the eastbound lane. His vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed by Palmer's Garage.

Driver flees scene

State police at Towanda said an unknown driver did not stop and fled the scene of a crash that took place earlier this month in Springfield Township.

Police said the vehicle was traveling south on North Lake Road and was negotiating a left curve, when it left the roadway and went into the southbound berm and struck a stop sign at the intersection of North Lake Road and Big Pond Road.

According to police, the driver fled west on Big Pond Road.

DUI charges

The following people were recently charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:

Kendall Taylor Tuten, 54, of Tuscon, Ariz., by the Towanda police, on May 6 on South Main Street in Towanda. A blood test showed that Tuten's blood alcohol content was .334 percent on the day of his arrest. Tuten lives on West Starr Pass Boulevard in Tuscon, but was staying in Towanda Township at the time of the incident.

Shawn Andrew Saxon, 29, of Towanda, by Athens Borough Police, on May 15, on North Main Street in Athens Borough. Saxon was also charged with two counts of driving on the wrong side of the road. A blood alcohol test later revealed Saxon's blood alcohol content was .209 percent on the day of his arrest. Saxon has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark on July 31 for his preliminary hearing.
