State game lands burglarized
A maintenance building located on State Game Lands 172 along Fisk Road in Wilmot Township was burglarized sometime between the hours of 4:30 p.m. Thursday and 5:30 a.m. Friday, according to a press release from the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
A leaf blower, mig welder, socket set and a total of six chain saws were stolen during the break-in, the game commission said.

Towanda woman charged in Walmart theft
Debbie Kay Bailey, 56, of Towanda, was charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property by Athens Township Police on Aug. 17 after Bailey attempted to steal $224.96 worth of merchandise from the Elmira Street Walmart in Athens Township, Athens police said.
Walmart's asset protection associate witnessed Bailey place numerous items in a tote bag and her purse before leaving the store without paying for the items, police said.
Items found on Bailey included a bird feeder and feed, eggs, tote lockers, and other various items, police said.
Bailey has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on Sept. 22 for her preliminary hearing.
Woman charged with resisting arrest
A Towanda woman was cited by borough police recently on a charge of resisting arrest.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Elizabeth R. Benjamin, 29, has also been charged with public drunkenness and disorderly conduct.
The charges against Benjamin stem from an incident that occurred on Aug. 18. Towanda police were dispatched to 105 York Ave. to investigate a report of a woman screaming. When they arrived at the scene, police found Benjamin inside the downstairs apartment. When they spoke to her, police said, Benjamin began yelling at another person inside the apartment. Benjamin was informed several times to calm down and stop yelling, or she would be arrested for disorderly conduct.
Benjamin eventually went outside, the report continued, and the situation developed so that the police had to place her under arrest. In the process, Benjamin stepped away from the officers and into traffic. Police said they had to place Benjamin on the ground, and handcuff her hands behind her back.
Benjamin was arraigned before Judge Clark, who ordered her incarcerated in lieu of $7,500 bail. Her preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 26
Man charged with criminal intent
A Monroeton man was arrested by state police recently on a charge of criminal intent to deliver a controlled substance.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Kaleb Michael Whyte, 25, has also been charged with criminal attempt to possess a controlled substance; and criminal use of a communication facility.
Whyte has been charged along with Jack Tyler Maloney-Williams of Towanda for obtaining bath salts from a supplier in China, and having it delivered to them via the U.S. Postal Service. Following information they obtained from their investigation, state police determined that Whyte had wired $1,300 via Western Union to the supplier in China, who in turn shipped them the bath salts. Obtaining a search warrant, police eventually opened the suspected package, and found it contained approximately 1,000 grams of what field tested positive as bath salts.
Whyte was arraigned before Judge Clark, who ordered the defendant released on non-monetary bail.
Man accused of making false statements
A Towanda man was cited by state police recently on a charge of making false statements to the authorities.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark, Derick Chad Fabyan, 28, was charged with the above offense following an incident on Aug. 9. On that date, according to the report, state police were dispatched to Fabyan's residence, where he told them that he had earlier been raped by an older man. Police began their investigation which included taking statements and medical evidence from Fabyan, as well as transporting him to Robert Packer Hospital for examination. However, police said that Fabyan eventually admitted during the interrogation that his sexual encounter with the other man had been consensual; but he was upset because the other man had offered to pay him, then later refused to do so.
Fabyan has been sent a summons to appear before Judge Clark on Sept. 16.
Man charged with simple assault
A New Albany man has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark to answer a charge of simple assault.
According to information filed at Clark's office, Levi Curtis Chilson, 26, has also been charged by state police with harassment. Chilson has been accused of striking a woman during a dispute on Aug. 18, kicking her in the ribs in the process.
Chilson was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, who ordered the defendant released on non-monetary bail. Chilson's preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 26 before Judge Clark.
Man charged with theft
A Monroeton man has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark to answer a charge of theft by unlawful taking.
According to information filed at Clark's office, Derek Christopher Matson, 28, was cited by state police for the above offense following an incident on July 31. Matson is accused of stealing Lorazepam tablets from a private residence.
