Charges filed in Athens car theft

Athens Township Police charged Jason Austin Jefferson, 25, with unauthorized use of an automobile after Jefferson took a vehicle without the owner's permission between Feb. 8 and Feb. 9, Athens police said.

The victim told police Jefferson was at her residence when she went to bed Feb. 8, but when she woke up, the vehicle, its keys, and Jefferson were missing, police said.

Police located the vehicle in the rear of the victim's apartment complex and found damage to the passenger's side mirror, police said.

Jefferson told the car's owner he would pay for the damages, but did not admit to driving it, police said.

Witnesses saw the vehicle at the Elmira Street Xtra Mart in Athens the morning of the incident, and after reviewing security footage police saw Jefferson exit the driver's seat of the vehicle, police said.

Jefferson was remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.

He will appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on Sept. 8 for his preliminary hearing.

Woman arrested on suspicion of DUI

State police at Coudersport said Melissa K. McNett, 44, of Canton, was arrested for suspicion of DUI at approximately 1:36 a.m. Aug. 24 on Route 14, south of McNett Hill Road, in Union Township, Tioga County, Pa.

According to police, McNett was found sleeping across the road from her vehicle, which was stuck in a ditch. Police said she admitted to driving and was arrested. Police said charges are pending the toxicology results.

 

Man charged with DUI after crash

State police at Towanda said Jerry Thomas Mott, 57, of Troy, was arrested for DUI after a crash at approximately 6:45 p.m. Aug. 1 on Farmers Valley Road/Redington Avenue in Troy Township. Mott was not injured in the accident. Police said he was traveling west in an Oldsmobile Bravada, when he allowed his vehicle to leave the roadway on the north side and side-swipe two parked vehicles, a Ford Fusion, and a Buick Rainier.

Police said he was charged with a violation of "driving on roadways laned for traffic."

According to police, Mott was arrested for DUI after committing the traffic violation. Police said charges have been filed at District Court 42-3-01.
