Sayre woman charged with child endangerment
Athens Township Police charged 44-year-old Penny Lynne Probst with endangering the welfare of a child after two people found a young child in Probst's care walking on Elmira Street in Athens Township on Aug. 20, Athens police said.
According to police, two women saw the child, about 3 years old, on the street around 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 20 and attempted to locate the child's home.
A neighbor to Probst helped the women find the home, but nobody answered the door when the three knocked, police said.
The neighbor entered the residence through an unlocked door and found Probst asleep, police said.
When awakened, Probst told them the child lived with her. The witnesses said the child was then left with Probst, police said.
One witness told the police the child had diaper rash, "fleas," and a urine-soaked diaper as well reporting the home had toilet paper "all over" and a sink was left running.
Police notified Bradford County Children and Youth Service to the issue and an agent arrived at Probst's residence, police said.
Probst told the agent that she fell back asleep in the morning after another person left the residence and that's when the child got out of the house, police said.
Probst has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on Oct. 13 for her preliminary hearing.
Assault, harassment charges filed against Sayre man
Joshua Marquise Coley, 23, of Sayre, has been charged with two counts of recklessly endangering another person, one count of simple assault, and one count of harassment by Athens Township Police following Sept. 5 incident at the Mountain View Manor apartments in Athens Township, police said.
According to police, the victim and Coley began arguing about text message and wrestled for a cell phone.
Coley grabbed the victim by the head and hit the victim's head off a wall, then Coley pushed the victim, who was holding two young children in an attempt to leave the apartment, police said.
The victim fell but was able to protect the children, then Coley left the apartment with the key, locking the victim out, police said.
Police later entered the apartment and found Coley inside where the took him into custody, police said.
Coley was released on $35,000 unsecured bail after being arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox.
Coley has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on Sept. 15 for his preliminary hearing.
Athens man facing simple assault, harassment charges
After reporting to an assault in progress on Sept. 7, Athens Borough Police charged Lance Eugene Gesford, 32, of Athens Borough, with simple assault and harassment , Athens police said.
Police said the victim told police Gesford has been verbally and physically abusive toward the victim for several weeks and that on Sept. 7 he grabbed, shook, pushed, and hit the victim.
Police observed bruising and redness on the victim's arms and face where Gesford grabbed and hit the victim, police said.
Gesford was remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
Gesford will appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on Sept. 22 for his preliminary hearing.
