Woman charged with simple assault

Jennifer Lynn Gormley, 33, of Troy, has been charged by Pennsylvania State Police with simple assault and harassment for an incident that took place at 10:15 p.m. Sept. 3 at her residence on Porter Road in Columbia Township, according to court papers filed with the office of Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox of Troy.

The charges note that she is accused of attempting to cause or intentionally, knowingly or recklessly causing bodily injury to Michael Paul Gormley, no age or address given, by using her mouth to bite him on the center left side of his back.

According to public court records online, she is awaiting a preliminary hearing, with her next action date scheduled for Oct. 14.

People injured

Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred Sept. 11 on Route 14, south of Gate Lane, in Troy Township, said state police at Towanda.

According to police, drivers involved in the crash were Renee Silvernail, 57, of Horseheads, who was not injured, and Heather J. Covert, 32, of Troy, who was not injured.

Two passengers in Covert's vehicle, John Gannon, 21, of Gillett, and Valerie Zurn, 32, of Gillett, had minor injuries, police said.

Police said the collision occurred on Route 14, in the area of Alparon Park. Covert was traveling north, when a vehicle in front was stopped in the right lane of travel, waiting to make a left turn onto Gate Lane, police said. Then, Covert came to a controlled stop, and Silvernail, who was traveling behind Covert, failed to stop a safe distance behind Covert, police said. As a result, Silvernail's vehicle struck Covert's vehicle at the six-o'clock position, police said. Police said damage from the crash prevented Silvernail's vehicle from being driven while Covert's vehicle could be driven from the scene.

Police said Silvernail was charged with "following too closely."

Harassment reported

State police at Towanda said a known 17-year-old Waverly, N.Y. male and a known 14-year-old Gillett female engaged in physical contact at approximately 7:30 p.m. Aug. 31 at a location on Route 14 in South Creek Township, resulting in both parties being harassed.

Underage drinking

State police at Towanda said three 20-year-old Gillett men and a 19-year-old Gillett man, whom police did not identify by name, were arrested for underage consumption of alcohol, after police were called to the location, at approximately 11:38 p.m. Sept. 7 at a property off Bird Creek Road in Wells Township.

Burglary reported

State police at Towanda said someone unknown illegally entered the home of Ronald Lloyd Smiley, no age or address given, sometime between Aug. 25-28 on Route 14 in Gillett, and stole a nickel-plated .357 handgun, with a black handle, as well as a leather holster belonging to Samuel Howard Miller, no age or address given.

Driver flees

State police at Towanda said an unknown driver fled the scene in an unknown direction at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 3 on Exchange Street in Troy, following a crash.

According to police, the driver was traveling north, and for an unknown reason, struck a Ford Focus, as it was parked along the edge of the roadway. After impact, the Ford Focus remained in its original position, police said.

Person injured

State police at Towanda said Loretta J. Owen, 33, of Columbia Cross Roads was moderately injured in a crash that occurred Sept. 1 on Pisgah State Park Road in Troy Township.

According to police, she was traveling west, and failed to negotiate a left curve in the roadway and then traveled onto the northern shoulder of the road, where her Ford Escape struck a ditch, causing it to overturn. It continued on its roof, westbound, in the ditch, before coming to final rest. Police said Owen had moderate injuries to her left side during the crash, and was wearing her seatbelt. Police said the vehicle was towed, due to disabling damage.

Police said Owen was charged with a violation of "roadways laned for traffic."

Crash investigated

State police at Towanda said they investigated a crash that took place at 8 p.m. Aug. 28 in Troy Borough.

According to police, a Dodge Ram was legally parked in a parking lot behind Anthony's Bar and Grill, and while trying to maneuver through the parking lot, an unknown driver struck the vehicle, causing damage to the rear of the vehicle. The unknown driver did not stop and exchange information, and fled the scene, police said.

The Dodge Ram remained in its original position, police said.

Bumpers scraped

State police at Towanda said a Toyota Corolla and a GMC Vandura sustained scrapes to their front bumpers and were able to be driven from the scene in a crash that took place at 7:20 p.m. Aug. 31 on Hillcrest Court in Troy.

Police said the Corolla exited its parking stall, and made a series of turns while attempting to turn around to exit the parking lot, and struck the Vandura while it was parked in a nearby stall. Police did not identify anyone by name in the report.

Man suffers moderate injury

State police at Towanda said James D. Wheeler, 21, of Canton, was moderately injured in a crash that took place at 11:10 p.m. Aug. 24 on Austin Road in Canton Township.

Police said he was beginning to travel south on Austin Road, from West Union Street, when he lost control of his Chevrolet Blazer, which resulted in the vehicle veering to the right, off the roadway. Police said the front of the vehicle struck a roadside ditch, causing it to overturn onto its roof. Police said it came to a resting position against the ditch.

Police said Wheeler was charged with careless driving.

Copper wire stolen in Ridgebury

Towanda state police said about 75 pounds of copper wire were stolen at an unknown time on Sept. 13 from a Centerville Road residence in Ridgebury.

Police said an unknown actor or actors broke into the victim's garage then took the copper wire.

Three injured in Smithfield crash

A single-car crash at about 12:50 p.m. on Sept. 12 in Smithfield Township injured the driver and two passengers, Towanda state police said.

Police said Edmund E. Wolfe, 89, of Milan, was traveling west in a Jeep Grand Cherokee on Ulster Road when he was affected by a physical condition and lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle crossed the center line and left the left side of the road and drove into a ditch then struck a tree with the center of the vehicle's front end, police said.

Elrena C. Wolfe, 85, and Wayne Scouten, 50, both of Milan, were passengers in the vehicle and sustained minor injuries along with the driver, police said.

Edmund Wolfe was cited in the crash, police said.

Coins stolen from Sheshequin residence

Towanda state police said 40 $1 coins were stolen at about 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 9 from a Woodside Lane residence in Sheshequin Township.

Police said the victim was away from the residence at the time the coins were stolen.

Police are investigating the incident.

Weapons stolen in Sheshequin

A Sackett Road residence in Sheshequin Township was burgled between June 30 and Sept. 2, Towanda state police said.

According to police, a muzzle loader rifle, a crossbow, a green Sentry gun safe, and Dale Earnhardt collectibles were stolen from the residence.
