Man charged with DUI
Willie Grey Thorpe Jr., 24, of Canton, faces a preliminary hearing on Nov. 6 in DUI court for charges that were filed against him following a one-vehicle crash that occurred Aug. 24 on Brague Road in Canton Township, according to court papers filed with the office of Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox of Troy.
The papers note that Thorpe is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance, summary careless driving, and summary violations of "drivers required to be licensed," "driving on right side of roadway," "driving vehicle at safe speed" and "occupant protection."
According to an affidavit, Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Taylor Smith was dispatched for the report of a single-vehicle crash on Brague Road at approximately 8:24 p.m. on Aug. 24. Upon arrival, he observed a red Jeep Grand Cherokee over an embankment, at final rest against a tree on its passenger side. He saw one empty Bud Light can on the ground, beneath the driver's side door. He said the driver, Thorpe, was in a Western Alliance ambulance, being prepared to be flown to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. The passenger was in another Western Alliance ambulance being prepared to be transported to Troy Community Hospital. Thorpe told police he was going too fast, when he hit gravel, causing his vehicle to swerve. He said he got scared, and hit the brakes even harder, causing him to lose control completely. Thorpe said he hadn't drunk since 4 p.m. Aug. 24, and that he had four or five beers and three shots.
