Towanda man accused of assaulting woman
David Lyn Griffith of Towanda is accused of assaulting a 23-year-old Towanda woman recently in Monroe Borough, police said.
The incident began at 7 p.m. on Aug. 6, when Griffith and Towanda resident Dawn G. Hibbert arrived at a gravel parking lot on Shaw Boulevard and engaged in a verbal dispute with the victim, police said.
The argument then became physical as Griffith struck the victim in the face several times before she fell to the ground, police said.
Griffith, 48, then began to choke the victim while she was lying on the ground, police said.
Following the argument, the 42-year-old Hibbert slapped the victim in the face, police said.
Griffith was charged with simple assault and harassment, state police at Towanda said.
Hibbert was cited for the summary offense of harassment, police said.
Burglary occurs in Overton Twp.
A burglary recently occurred at a 29-year-old man's residence on Beebe Road in Overton Township, police said.
The burglary occurred sometime between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Aug. 1, state police said.
The burglar or burglars stole items that were both inside and outside the residence, police said.

"Your name is not required, just your information," the state police wrote in a press release that they issued about the burglary. "Anonymous tips may pay up to $2,000."
Two charged with public drunkenness in Towanda Twp.
Towanda residents Andrew Gomez and Star Parker were both arrested for public drunkenness following a recent incident in Towanda Township, police said.
At 9:35 p.m. on Wednesday, Gomez and Parker were both observed walking on state Route 3020 while intoxicated, and Parker was nearly struck by a vehicle, police said.
During the investigation, Gomez became combative toward the 31-year-old Parker, police said.
Gomez, 29, was also charged with disorderly conduct, police said.
Laceyville man charged with theft
Randy Scot Knolles, 39, of Laceyville is accused of entering his ex-girlfriend's residence and stealing a blanket, a sweatshirt, and an iced tea, police said.
The incident occurred early on Aug. 6 at Ashley L. Weiss' residence on Dunn Hill Road in Monroe Township, police said.
Knolles was charged with criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, and illegally entering an occupied residence, state police at Towanda said.
Knolles was arraigned on Aug. 6 by Towanda Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark. Knolles was then released on non-monetary bail.
Knolles must attend a preliminary hearing on Wednesday before Judge Clark.
Retail theft charge
An Athens woman was recently arrested by Athens Township police on a charge of retail theft.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Kamry Mishel Smiley, 23, was also charged with receiving stolen property.
Police said Smiley removed $291.03 worth of merchandise Aug. 10 from the Walmart store on Elmira Street.
Smiley was arraigned Aug. 10 by Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail. Smiley's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 20.
South Waverly man charged
A South Waverly man was recently arrested by Sayre Borough police on a charge of simple assault.
According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, James Robert Welles, 34, was also charged with harassment and disorderly conduct.
Police said Welles choked and threatened a female during an Aug. 10 argument at a Horizon Way location.
Welles was arraigned Aug. 10 by Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark and released from the Bradford County Jail on non-monetary bail. Welles' preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 20.
Woman charged with child endangerment
A Mehoopany, Pa. woman was recently charged with five counts of child endangerment by Sayre Borough police.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Deborah Louise Merritt, 56, was also charged with five counts of failure to use restraint systems and one count each of failure to stop at a red light and careless driving.
Police said Merritt was operating a Chevrolet Blazer involved in a motor vehicle accident June 8 at the intersection of Route 220 and the Route 17 eastbound exit ramp in South Waverly. Police said Merritt was transporting seven other individuals - two adults and five children - when the vehicle failed to stop at a red light in the southbound lane of Route 220 and was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado turning left onto Route 220.
A passenger in the Blazer told police that nobody in the vehicle wore seat belts except for one child who was in a booster seat with a shoulder and lap belt on, police said.
Merritt's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 24.
