Waverly police make arrests
Waverly Village police recently arrested the following people, according to information from the Waverly Police Department:
Ashley A. Stark, 24, of Waverly, on June 1, for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, following a traffic stop.
Jenell L. Swingle, 30, of Athens, on June 1, for petit larceny. Police said Swingle removed food from Soprano's Market on Cayuta Avenue.
Brandon M. Herman, 29, of Candor, N.Y., for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, following a traffic stop.
Sheila L. Kueffler, 55, of Kimberling City, Mo., for driving while intoxicated and refusing to submit to a pre-screening test.
Two arrested following party
Sayre police recently incarcerated two Sayre women on a charge of corruption of minors.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Shelby Mckenzie Poarch, 20, and Caitlin R. Bostwick, 19, were also charged with two counts of furnishing liquor to a minor and one count of underage consumption of alcohol.
Police said the two were arrested following a reported underage drinking party at their North Lehigh Avenue apartment in the early hours of June 8. A search warrant revealed that several juveniles were in the apartment, according to police.
Poarch and Bostwick both tested positive for the presence of alcohol following a preliminary breath test, police said. A 13-year-old juvenile female at the residence also tested positive for the presence of alcohol. The juvenile was cited for underage drinking and released to her mother, police said. Police seized several alcoholic beverages from the residence, according to police.
Poarch and Bostwick were each arraigned June 8 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail. Their preliminary hearings are each scheduled for June 18.
Man charged with rape
Athens Township police recently arrested a Milan man on a charge of rape by forcible compulsion.
According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Michael James Platt, 24, was also charged with sexual assault and aggravated indecent assault by forcible compulsion.
Police said Platt is accused of forcibly having sexual intercourse with a female victim June 8 at a location within the township.
Platt was arraigned June 10 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. Platt's preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 18.
Theft charge
A man was recently arrested by Athens Borough police on a charge of theft by unlawful taking.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Charles Clinton Garrett, 39, was also charged with harassment and criminal trespass. Garrett was homeless at the time of his arrest, police said.
According to police, Garrett removed food from the refrigerator of a South Main Street residence June 9 and ate it. Garrett and the owner of the food then engaged in a physical altercation, police said.
Garrett had been evicted from the residence in May, but told police he had no place to go and refused to vacate the property, police said.
Garrett was arraigned June 9 and remanded to the Bradford County jail in lieu of $5,000 bail. Garrett's preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 18.
