A 27-year-old Montrose woman will spend 22-60 months in state prison for escaping a probation officer’s custody when she was being escorted to the Wyoming County Correctional Facility in May.

Wyoming County President Judge Russell Shurtleff said at Chelsea Lee Robinson’s sentencing Friday that she also faced a $500 fine and $26.99 in restitution to replace a set of handcuffs.

Her attorney Jair Novajosky, in asking for a lighter sentence, said Robinson had been involved with substance abuse since she was 12, adding that more than half of her life had been impaired because of it.

Novajosky also told the court Robinson was pregnant and jail would not be suitable, adding that it would be difficult after the baby is born to have it taken away.

Robinson said she was sorry for her actions.

Police said Robinson fled law enforcement escorting her from the Wyoming County Courthouse to the Wyoming County Correctional Facility on May 5 and ran to a waiting vehicle, driven by her friend, Shawn McNamee, 32.

U.S. marshals attempted to arrest McNamee nine days later during a traffic stop in Union, New York.

Robinson agian eluded police, but marshals arrested her the next day in Rome, Bradford County.

Robinson had visited the probation office on May 5 and was escorted to the jail after it was determined she violated a condition of her probation.

According to court records, she was four days shy of completing 12 months of probation for a drug possession charge she had been sentenced to in 2016.

Shurtleff said Friday a lesser sentence would depreciate the seriousness of what Robinson did, particularly in showing an extreme disregard for the criminal justice system, as well as the public safety of the community, noting that the escape was premeditated and her actions led to a multistate manhunt that lasted more than a week.

She has been in the Wyoming County jail since May 15.

Shurtleff said she would be taken to Muncy for processing in the near future.

Also, a 32-year-old Sugar Run man who sold drugs while serving as a Wyoming County constable faces nine-48 months in state prison.

Shane Ryan Fryer appeared Friday morning before Shurtleff, who sentenced him on a single felony charge of criminal use of a communication facility.

The case surfaced after a confidential informant purchased crystal methamphetamine from Fryer on Nov. 14, 2016, during a time when he served as Windham Twp. constable.

According to court records, a Wyoming County detective — along with state police — searched Fryer’s home the next day, and Fryer was found in a garage in close proximity to crystal methamphetamine and he had his constable badge on him and was carrying a sidearm.

Judge Shurtleff said Fryer faced a fine of $1,000 and restitution of $105 and would be taken to Camp Hill for processing in the near future.

Fryer had previously served in the summer of 2015 on the Laceyville Borough police force for two days, but the appointment was rescinded after it was discovered his liability insurance did not cover borough police work.
