Waverly police arrest four
Waverly village police recently arrested four people following investigation into activity at two residences in the village.
According to information from the Waverly Police Department, James D. Rogers, 22, of Waverly, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance after a search warrant located 60 narcotic pills. Kyle Simpson, 22, of Waverly, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.
Following a second search of a Broad Street residence, police located several hypodermic needles and arrested Corey M. Strope, 35, of Sayre, as a fugitive from justice, police said. Strope had a warrant for his arrest out of Bradford County, according to police. Strope was arraigned in Waverly village court and remanded to the Tioga County Jail.
Police also arrested an 18-year-old male on charges of burglary and grand larceny, police said. The male, who police did not identify, entered a local auto shop and stole a vehicle, police said. The vehicle was later located and returned to the owner. The male was arraigned in Waverly village court and remanded to the Tioga County Jail.
Further investigations are being conducted and additional arrests are expected, police said.
Waverly man resists arrest
A Waverly man was recently arrested by Sayre Borough police on a charge of resisting arrest.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Jacob A. Mosier, 24, was also charged with disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
Police said Mosier engaged into a physical altercation with another male and yelled obscene language in the borough's municipal parking lot on North Lehigh Avenue at about 2:15 a.m. Aug. 31. Mosier appeared to be heavily intoxicated and resisted arrest for over a minute, police said.
Mosier was arraigned Aug. 31 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. Mosier's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 10.
Sayre man arrested
A Sayre man was recently arrested by Sayre Borough police on a charge of disorderly conduct.
According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Joshua R. Casterline, 21, was also charged with resisting arrest and public drunkenness.
Police said Casterline yelled at a female during an argument Sept. 1 at an Elmer Avenue residence. Casterline pulled away from officers and attempted to run from police, requiring police to deploy a stun gun on him before being taken into custody, police said.
Casterline was arraigned Sept. 1 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail. Casterline's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 10.
Man cited for harassment
State police at Towanda recently cited a Towanda man for harassment following an incident at a Sheshequin Township residence.
According to state police information, John F. Maloney, 39, was cited after he swung at a female's head with a closed fist at about 7:10 a.m. Aug. 24 at a Beacon Light Road residence.
Access device fraud
State police at Towanda are seeking an unknown actor that unlawfully used the credit card information of a Sayre victim to make purchases.
According to state police information, the actor made six purchases at a Houston, Tex. Walmart totaling $1,212.99. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact state police at (570) 265-2186.
Waverly police increasing school zone enforcement
The Waverly Police Department would like to remind motorists to use caution when traveling in the village, as school has started in the Waverly Central School District.
The start of classes will lead to an increase in pedestrian traffic in and around schools, specifically small children walking to and from school, according to information from the department. Police ask that travelers be aware of the increase and observe posted speeds in school zones on their daily commutes. School zones in the village are posted at 15 miles per hour and are no-tolerance zones, police said.
Officers will increase enforcement in the areas of the village's schools to ensure safety and to remind commuters to slow down, police said.
Woman refuses to leave Comfort Inn room
Rita Mary Kulick, 56, of Williamsport has been charged with criminal trespass relating to a Aug. 25 incident at the Comfort Inn on State route 6 in Wysox Township.
According to police, Kulick refused to leave the hotel after her 11 a.m. check-out time. Kulick claimed that she could stay until noon before she had to leave.
Police said Kulick refused to open the door for the hotel staff and then called the front desk of the hotel and stated she isn't leaving the room.
Kulick refused to open the door to the room even after state police arrived at the scene, forcing police to use a key for the door to enter.
Police said Kulick attempted to push the door closed on the officers after the gained entry into the room.
Kulick was arraigned on the day of her arrest by Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton and remanded to the Bradford County Correctional Facility in lieu of $12,000 bail.
According to an online court docket, Kulick was released on her own recognizance on Sept. 3, the same day as her preliminary hearing.
Inmate charged
Marc D. Eberlin, 27, was charged with arrest prior to requisition around 8:30 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Bradford County Correctional Facility in West Burlington Township, due to the fact that he was wanted by the Waverly Police Department, said state police at Towanda.
Police said he was being housed at the jail, awaiting extradition to Waverly, N.Y. to face criminal charges there.
Man charged
State police at Towanda said Joshua Mathews, 32, who was being housed at the Bradford County Correctional Facility, was charged with arrest prior to requisition between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Aug. 19 at the Bradford County Correctional Facility in West Burlington Township.
Police said he has an active full extradition warrant from the Waverly Police Department for possession of a hypodermic needle and was awaiting extradition to Waverly, N.Y.
Underage drinking reported
State police at Towanda said that a 19-year-old Elmira, N.Y. man, who was a passenger in a vehicle in a crash at 7:10 p.m. Aug. 2 on Route 6 in Burlington, was found to be under the influence of alcohol, while under the age of 21.
