Police use taser to subdue man

John Henry Dehaan, 58, of Wyalusing has been charged by state police with resisting arrest and harassment relating to a Aug. 28 incident at Smith's Personal Care Home in Wyalusing Borough.

Police said Dehaan kicked another resident of the care home in the stomach.

Upon arriving at the scene, state police attempted to place Dehaan into custody and were met with resistance. Police then used a taser three times on Dehaan before he complied and put his hands behind his back.

Dehaan was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton on Aug. 28 and remanded to the Bradford County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,500 bail.

Pedestrian struck in Alba

A pedestrian was transported to Troy Hospital following a vehicle-pedestrian accident at 1:40 p.m. Sunday on Ayers Road in Alba, according to state police at Towanda.

The pedestrian, Steven Alan Burbank, 63, of Canton, was transported to the hospital by Western Alliance EMS, and was believed to have only minor injuries, police said.

According to police, troopers responded to the scene for the report of a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.

At the scene, it was reported that a verbal dispute between the driver, Brandon M. Walburn, 24, of Canton, and another man, had occurred. Police said Walburn was trying to leave the area, when he put the vehicle in reverse and hit the pedestrian.

DUI crash reported

State police at Towanda said that Fredrick Peake, Jr., 46, of Waverly, N.Y. operated a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and lost control, resulting in a crash, at 10:10 p.m. July 13 on Route 6, about one-half mile east of Madigan Road, in Burlington Township.

No injuries reported

State police at Towanda said that Dale H. Scrivener, Jr., 19, of Waverly, N.Y. was not injured in a one-vehicle accident at 12:10 p.m. Aug. 26 on Route 514 in Granville Township.

Police said the crash occurred as he was driving on a left curve in his Pontiac Sunfire, while traveling west. The vehicle's passenger side wheels caught the gravel edge of the westbound shoulder, the vehicle began to yaw, and the driver lost control, according to police. The vehicle crossed the eastbound lane, traveled into a field, and rolled over, coming to final rest on its wheels.

Police said he was charged with a violation of "driving at safe speed."

Incident investigated

State police at Towanda said they are continuing to investigate an incident involving inappropriate touching between a 13-year-old female and a four-year-old Sylvania girl and a 7-year-old Troy boy that occurred at noon on July 26 on Sylvania Road in Sylvania.
