Man charged with rape

Athens Borough police recently incarcerated a man on a charge of rape by forcible compulsion.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Jose A. Duran, 36, no address given, was also charged with statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault by forcible compulsion and indecent assault without consent.

Police said Duran is accused of raping a then-14-year-old female juvenile in March 2012 at a borough residence. Duran has since moved out of the area, police said.

Duran was arraigned Dec. 5 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail, police said. Duran's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 10.

Man accused of disorderly conduct

A Waverly man was recently incarcerated by Sayre Borough police on a charge of disorderly conduct.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Kyle R. Peppard, 28, was also charged with resisting arrest.

Police said Peppard created a disturbance Dec. 5 at the Lehigh Tavern on North Lehigh Avenue and refused to leave when asked. Police said Peppard refused to comply with officers' attempts to arrest him and struggled to pull away from police.

Peppard was arraigned Dec. 6 by Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail. Peppard's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 10.

Man charged with sexual assault

Zakary R. Pentycofe, 20, with a last known address of 358 Decker Rd., Lowman, N.Y. faces a preliminary hearing at 2 p.m. Dec. 18 before Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox of Troy on charges of statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, and unlawful contact with minor for incidents that took place in 2011 in South Creek Township and other areas, according to court papers.

In an affidavit, state police trooper David Pelachick said that police received a report of suspected child abuse which indicated that Pentycofe had sex with a 15-year-old victim that began while she was sleeping on Dec. 31, 2011.

Wilcox said Pentycofe's bail was set at $100,000.

Theft occurs in Monroe Borough

Four tires were stolen recently from a 2000 Honda Civic when it was parked in the old hotel lot on Hinman Street in Monroe Borough, police said.

The vehicle belongs to a 50-year-old Towanda man, state police said.

The theft occurred sometime between Dec. 3 and Dec. 6, police said.

Monroeton man charged with violation of Meghan's Law

John Frederick, 48, of Monroeton has been charged with a violation of Meghan's Law, state police said.

Frederick failed to comply with the requirements of registered sex offenders, police said.

Frederick did not notify the state police of his address change as required, police explained.

The incident occurred between Dec. 2 and Dec. 8, state police at Towanda said.

Theft occurs in Standing Stone Twp.

State police at Towanda said they are trying to determine who stole two game cameras in Standing Stone Township.

The theft occurred sometime between 8 a.m. on Oct. 28 and 8 a.m. on Nov. 1 on a property on River Road that is owned by 54-year-old Towanda man, police said.

East Smithfield woman cited for harassment

Nicole Vandyke, 22, of East Smithfield has been cited for harassment after she got in an argument with a 24-year-old Towanda man, which turned physical, police said.

State police described the man as the victim in this incident, which occurred at 3:50 p.m. on Oct. 25.

Vandalism occurs in Towanda Twp.

Someone recently vandalized an "open" sign at Farmer Fred's, 1135 South Main St., Towanda Township, police said.

The vandalism occurred sometime between 4 p.m. and 4:55 p.m. on Saturday, state police said.

Theft occurs in Wysox Twp.

Someone recently stole an Ingersoll Rand pneumatic tugger winch from a job site on Masonite Road in Wysox Township, police said.

The winch belongs to United Rentals of Milan, police said.

The theft occurred sometime between Sept. 11 and Sept. 20, state police said.

Your "name is not required, just your information," the state police said in a press release that they issued on Monday about the theft. "Up to $2,000 cash reward if your information results in an arrest."

Burglary occurs in Dushore

A burglary has occurred at the Overton Road Apartments in Dushore, Sullivan County, police said.

Someone opened a ground floor window of a woman's apartment, climbed through it, and stole a basket with eight different non-narcotic pills in it, police said.

The burglar or burglars then left out of same window they entered, state police said.

The burglary occurred sometime between 6 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 21, police said.

Truck rolls onto side in Fox Twp.

Daniel M. Killian, 17, of Canton suffered a minor injury in a motor vehicle accident in Fox Township, Sullivan County, police said.

Killian was traveling south in state Route 154 at 4:45 p.m. on Nov. 23 when he lost control of his 1998 Ford pickup truck on a curve, police said.

The vehicle left the roadway, entered a small ditch, and rolled onto its side, state police said.

A passenger in the vehicle, 18-year-old Richard A. Heffner of Canton, was uninjured, police said.

Killian was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in Towanda, police said.

Towanda female charged with possession of drug paraphernalia

Culleen Merrick Brassfield, 20, of Towanda has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the state police at Towanda.

The charge stems from an Aug. 4 incident on Bridge Street Hill Road in Towanda Township, during which Brassfield was in possession of several used syringes and other drug paraphernalia, police said.

State police who were at the scene said that Brassfield told them that she had used bath salts previously that day and that the drug paraphernalia was for using bath salts.

Brassfield's preliminary hearing on the charge, which was originally scheduled for Dec. 6 in Towanda District Court, has been postponed to Dec. 13.
