DUI charge
The following people were recently charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:
Julie R. Volpe, 34, of Waverly, NY, by state police, on Nov. 26, on Lake Road in Wysox Township.
Volpe has also been charged with failing to drive in her own lane and careless driving.
According to police, Volpe crashed a 2001 Dodge Caravan into swamp.
On the day of her arrest, Volpe's blood alcohol content was .186 percent, police said.
Volpe has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton on Jan. 14 at 1 p.m. for a preliminary hearing.
Lauren Colleen Moody, 28, of Milan, by Athens Borough police, on Nov. 30, on North Elmira Street in Athens. Moody has also been charged with careless driving. A blood alcohol test revealed that Moody's blood alcohol content was .13 percent on the day of her arrest. Moody has been sent a summons to appear Jan. 14 before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw for a preliminary hearing.
Andrew James Shipman, 33, of Sayre, by Athens Borough police, on Dec. 1, on South Main Street in Athens. Shipman has also been charged with operating a vehicle with an open container of alcohol, careless driving and unsafe turning. A blood alcohol test revealed that Shipman's blood alcohol content was .23 percent on the day of his arrest. Shipman has been sent a summons to appear Jan. 14 before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw for a preliminary hearing.
Two charged in tire theft
Sayre Borough police recently arrested two men on charges of theft by unlawful taking.
According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Jody Lee McDermott, 24, of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and Fred Albert Hopper, 39, of Noxen, Pa., were also each charged with receiving stolen property.
Police said McDermott and Hopper removed five automobile tires Dec. 6 from the Williams Kia dealership on Spring Street.
McDermott was arraigned Dec. 5 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. Hopper was arraigned Dec. 6 and remanded to the jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. Both are scheduled to appear Dec. 17 at preliminary hearings before Judge Shaw.
Towanda man accused of supplying meth to 15-year-old
Albert Eugene Johnson, 57, of Towanda and another adult are accused of providing methamphetamine and marijuana to a 15-year-old boy and ingesting the drugs with the boy, police said.
As a result of this incident, Johnson has been charged with delivery or possession with intent to deliver marijuana, delivery or possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.
The incident occurred on Feb. 1, 2012 at Johnson's residence on South Main Street, according to the state police at Towanda.
Johnson was arraigned on the charges on Nov. 18, 2013 by Towanda Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark. Johnson was then sent to the Bradford County jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
Johnson's preliminary hearing, which was scheduled for Nov. 27 in Towanda District Court, has been postponed to Dec. 18.
Megan's Law offender faces hearing
Dale Edward Hart, 59, who is a registered Megan's Law Offender, faces a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. Dec. 18 before Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox of Troy, as a result of being charged with "failure to comply with registration requirements," according to court papers.
The papers note that it was reported on Dec. 4 to state police that Hart was not living at his reported address on Lookout Road in Columbia Township. The Pennsylvania State Police, Towanda station, is responsible for registering sexual offenders, and maintaining copies of records relating to the registration.
Hart is classified as a "Tier 3" lifetime sexual offender, as a result of a conviction for rape, and is thus required to register quarterly and update his information accurately.
According to an affidavit, the resident at the address provided by Hart said that Hart never had permission to reside at her address and has not reported to the address since his release from State Correctional Institute Waymart.
Hart was taken into custody, with his bail set at $15,000.
Man faces hearing on theft
David Eugene Tracy, 61, of 4630 Berwick Turnpike, Columbia Cross Roads, faces a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. Jan. 8 before Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox of Troy on charges of theft by unlawful taking or disposition and receiving stolen property, according to court papers.
The papers note that a state police trooper was dispatched to a theft at the SRU School Nov. 8 in East Smithfield, and was advised there was video surveillance of Tracy going into the faculty room where there is a basket with money in it for fundraising. A $5 bill was marked, and Tracy had the marked bill on him, according to an affidavit.
Tracy admitted to the trooper that he did take money out of the fund, and has taken money out of the fund in the past, with the amount totaling approximately $30.
Woman charged with retail theft
Kristin Lee Terry, 25, of 50 N. Washington St., Canton, faces a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. Jan. 15 before Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox of Troy on a charge of retail theft for an incident at 8:08 p.m. Nov. 2 at the D & H Keystone Market Inc. in Canton, according to court papers.
The papers note that Canton police officer Trey Kurtz was dispatched to D & H Market for a theft and was told that an employee was stealing from the deli department. Terry confessed she did not have any money and couldn't buy food, so she stole it. The stolen merchandise totaled $37.02.
