Retail theft charge
A Waverly woman was recently charged with retail theft by Athens Township police.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, on Nov. 20, Rebecca Dymond Zwierlein, 47, attempted to remove merchandise from the Walmart store on Elmira Street. The merchandise was valued at about $25, police said.
Zwierlein's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 21.
Man arrested following traffic stop
An Endicott, N.Y. man was recently arrested by Tioga County, N.Y. sheriff's deputies on a charge of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
According to information from the sheriff's office, Stephen R. Mayes, 39, was also charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to yield while entering a roadway.
Police said the charges resulted from a traffic stop at about 1:13 p.m. Dec. 11 on Fulton Street in Waverly. Mayes was issued tickets to appear Jan. 9 in Waverly village court.
Waverly police issue parking reminder
The Waverly Police Department recently issued a reminder asking residents to move vehicles off the street during snow events so crews may plow streets and to not park on streets during snow emergencies.
In a release from village police, the department also asks residents to clean snow from around fire hydrants near their homes and businesses. This saves time for emergency personnel to locate and operate hydrants during emergencies, police said. Police also ask that residents clear their sidewalks of snow and ice within 24 hours of snowfall.
Two injured in Litchfield Twp. accident
State police at Towanda recently investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident in Litchfield Township.
According to information from state police, at about 9:02 a.m. Dec. 14, a westbound 2001 Ford Focus operated by Alicia S. Woodruff, 18, of Sayre traveled into the eastern berm of Cotton Hollow Road about 400 feet north of North Rome Road, striking a tree on its passenger side front panel and a second tree head-on.
Greater Valley EMS transported Woodruff to Robert Packer Hospital for minor injuries, police said. A passenger, Richard R. Garris, 20, of Sayre, also had minor injuries, police said. Both Woodruff and Garris wore seatbelts, according to police.
Police said Woodruff was traveling too fast for the road's snowy conditions and cited Woodruff for speeding.
The vehicle had disabling damage and was towed from the scene by Sutton's Towing, police said. The Litchfield Volunteer Fire Company also assisted at the scene.
Harassment charges filed
State police at Towanda recently filed simple assault and harassment charges against two men following an argument at a Towanda Township establishment.
According to information from state police, a 49-year-old Ulster male and a 48-year-old Wysox male were involved in a verbal argument that turned physical Nov. 15 at the Bucket of Blood Bar. Police did not provide the names of the males involved.
Police investigating theft
State police at Towanda are investigating thefts that occurred in Ridgebury Township.
According to information from state police, an unknown actor or actors removed cash from two purses left in vehicles on Pelton Place sometime on Nov. 14 or Nov. 15. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at (570) 265-2186.
Canton woman cited for criminal mischief
Renee Nicole Shattuck, 26, of Canton has been cited for criminal mischief and public drunkenness following a recent incident on Patton Hill Road in Towanda Township, police said.
The victims in this incident, which took place at 5:10 a.m. Saturday, were members of a Towanda family, state police at Towanda said.
