DUI charges
The following people were recently charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:
Brian H. Clouse, 55, of Rome, by the Towanda police, on June 1 on the Merrill Parkway in Towanda. Clouse exhibited signs of being under the influence of alcohol.
Jenelle Martha Maines, 21, of Towanda, by the state police, on May 10, on U.S. Route 6 in North Towanda Township. A test showed that Maines had a blood alcohol content of .228 percent on the day of her arrest.
Troy man waives hearing
A Troy man who barricaded himself in his apartment and told police that he had bath salts in his pocket during an incident May 5 at his residence has waived his preliminary hearing to the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas, according to Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox of Troy.
Philip Wayne Wood, 53, of 85 Exchange St., Troy, was arrested and charged by Troy Police Officer Michael Northup for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and he was also charged with false reports to law enforcement authorities, according to court papers.
In an affidavit, Northup said he responded to 85 Exchange St. for a report of a person trying to break into Apt. 3, but upon his arrival, no one was found and Wood had barricaded himself in his apartment by several means. Wood said there were people threatening him, but Northup found no one there. The neighbors stated that they didn't hear or see anyone, either.
Northup said Wood was unable to stand still, was nervous, sweating heavily and appeared to be very paranoid. Wood was asked to empty his pockets, and Northup found that Wood had several orange caps that Northup identified as hypodermic needle caps, three spoons, a pack of zig zag papers, and a packet of "Zulu Incense," which Wood identified as "synthetic weed," adding that he had smoked some the day before. Northup asked Wood if he had anything else, and Wood stated that he had bath salts in his watch pocket. Northup reached into Wood's pocket and removed a small clear bag with a white powdery substance.
Man charged in sexual assault
State police at Towanda said that David Wayne Crane, no age given, of Towanda, was charged after admitting to having sexual contact with a 15-year-old female in March in Leroy Township.
Police said Crane was charged with felony statutory sexual assault, felony involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, and felony corruption of minors.
According to police, a preliminary arraignment was held and Crane was placed in Bradford County Correctional Facility, in lieu of $65,000 bail.
Police said the charges were filed after an investigation was conducted regarding allegations by the girl that Crane had sexual contact with her.
Charges filed
State police at Towanda said Joel D. Vanderpool, 30, of Towanda, was charged for possession of drug paraphernalia for an incident at 2:45 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Bradford County Correctional Facility in West Burlington Township.
Police said he was taken to the Bradford County Correctional Facility for an active arrest warrant, and was then searched and was found to have two hypodermic needles concealed on him.
According to police, charges were filed in his name in District Court 42-3-01.
Fuel taken
State police at Towanda said that someone stole about 30 gallons of diesel fuel from a tractor owned by Breezy Hollow Farms in May on Orchard Hill Road in Troy Township.
Police are investigating and asked that anyone with information about the incident to call the Towanda station at (570) 265-2186.
Charge pending
State police at Towanda said a summary harassment charge is pending against a 17-year-old Ralston female through District Court 42-3-01 for an incident at 9:37 p.m. June 8 on State Route 3012 in Canton Township.
According to police, the victim was an 18-year-old Roaring Branch man.
Man cited
State police at Towanda said that Jason Eugene Shipman, 37, of Springfield Township, was cited for harassment for an incident involving a 17-year-old male victim that took place at 9:08 p.m. June 9 on Springfield Road in Springfield Township.
Police said Shipman grabbed a hold of the 17-year-old, and ripped off the shirt of the teen as the boy was trying to get away. Police said the 17-year-old sustained scratches in the incident.
Man charged in indecent assault
State police at Towanda said that Abraham Root, 36, of Gillett, was charged with indecent assault and corruption of minors in District Court 42-3-01 following an investigation into allegations that he had indecent contact with an 11-year-old male in Troy Township.
Police said Root was arraigned June 11 and released on unsecure bail.
Man charged
State police at Towanda said that Christopher Clark, 41, of Addison, N.Y., who was incarcerated at Bradford County Correctional Facility, had an active bench warrant from New York, and was charged and arraigned for "arrest prior to requisition" June 7.
No injuries reported
State police at Towanda said no one was injured in a two-vehicle accident at 9:02 p.m. June 7 on Route 14, 115 feet south of Watson Road, in South Creek Township.
Police said Jonathan D. Roberts, 28, of Williamsport, and his passenger, Arica L. Buchanan, 23, of Horseheads, N.Y., were not injured.
According to police, Roberts was traveling north and a deer ran out in front of his Cadillac CTS. The car's front passenger side corner struck the deer.
New Albany man accused of possessing heroin
Dustin Michael Chilson, 22, of New Albany was recently charged with possession of a controlled substance, state police at Towanda said.
Chilson was in possession of a pack of heroin in his front pocket Saturday at a residence on Main Street in New Albany, police said.
Chilson was arraigned by Towanda Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark on Saturday.
Chilson was then sent to the Bradford County jail in lieu of $30,000 bail.
Chilson's preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 19 in Towanda District Court.
Couple face pot charges in Ulster
Sarah Bethany Flenders and Seth Michael Whitfield, both of Waverly, N.Y., have both been charged with possession of marijuana and possession with intent to deliver marijuana, police said.
The charges stem from a traffic stop that occurred on April 26 on U.S. Route 220 in Ulster Township after Flenders was observed driving erratically, police said.
There were 95 grams of marijuana in the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop, state police at Towanda said.
Flenders, 21, and Whitfield, 24, were also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.
In addition, Flenders was charged with driving under the influence of marijuana and several traffic violations, police said.
The traffic stop occurred at 1:25 a.m. on April 26, police said.
Flenders and Whitfield have been sent summonses ordering them to appear for a preliminary hearing before Towanda Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark on July 17.
Canton man waives hearing on DUI
Blaze Dylan Schrader, 22, of 15 Leroy Mountain Rd., Canton, has waived his preliminary hearing on DUI charges that were filed after an April 5 traffic stop at 11:18 p.m. on East Main Street in Canton to the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas, according to Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox of Troy.
According to court papers, Schrader was also charged with a violation of "general lighting requirements." Canton Police Officer Joshua Heckman said that Schrader had a blood alcohol content of .112 percent at 12:36 a.m. on April 6.
Canton man's DUI hearing waived
Brian Douglas May, 58, of 514 S. West Ave., Canton, who was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance for a May 2 incident at the Citgo Gas Station in Leroy Township, has waived his preliminary hearing to the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas, according to Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox of Troy.
