Retail theft charges filed

A Corning, N.Y. man was recently arrested by Sayre Borough police on a charge of retail theft.

According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Francis Benjamin Moore, 43, was also charged with attempted retail theft, possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness.

Police said at about 2:49 a.m. Jan. 8, Moore removed $313 worth of merchandise from the Dandy Mini Mart on Spring Street, including 10 pairs of gloves, seven hats and four cellular phone accessories. Police found a razor blade, snort straw and a small plastic baggie with white powder residue on his person, police said.

Moore was arraigned Jan. 8 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail. Moore's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 14.

Police investigate one-car MVA

State police at Towanda recently investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident in Smithfield Township.

According to state police information, at about 10:10 a.m. Dec. 27, an eastbound 2008 Volkswagen Jetta operated by Shelly J. Wood, 24, of Troy, traveled over the fog line while negotiating a left-hand curve. Police said the vehicle then traveled through snow and ice, spun counter-clockwise and traveled across both lanes before striking two embankments and coming to final rest.

Police said Wood wore a seatbelt and was uninjured. Dave's Auto Care Center of East Smithfield towed the vehicle from the scene, police said.

Police cited Wood for failure to stay in lane, police said.

Lost bag found

State police at Towanda seek the owner of a duffel bag found in Sheshequin Township.

According to information from state police, the bag was located Dec. 26 on a gas well pad site off Woodrun Road.

Anyone who may have lost the bag is asked to contact state police at (570) 265-2186.

Nobody injured in one-car crash

State police at Towanda recently investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident in Sheshequin Township.

According to state police information, at about 8:45 p.m. Dec. 26, a southbound 1997 Nissan Maxima operated by Mark A. Roof, 18, of Towanda, lost control on an ice-covered North Rome Road and struck a tree head-on in the roadway's western berm.

Police said Roof and two passengers, 20-year-old Emily K. Mauser of Honey Brook, Pa. and 18-year-old Jacob A. Cole of Rome, wore seatbelts and were uninjured. Benjamin's Towing removed the vehicle from the scene, police said.

Police cited Roof for speeding, according to police.

Trees removed from business

State police at Towanda are investigating a criminal mischief case in Ulster Township.

According to information from state police, an unknown actor or actors cut two trees down at Milan Nursery sometime between Dec. 20 and Dec. 29. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at (570) 265-2186.

Police investigate MVA

State police at Towanda recently investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident in Stevens Township.

According to state police information, at about 12:19 a.m. Dec. 20, a southbound 2003 Subaru Forester operated by Craig A. Fitzgerald, 33, of New Albany, traveled off Wyalusing-New Albany Road into the southbound berm and struck a boulder.

Fitzgerald and a 4-year-old female passenger had minor injuries but were not transported to a hospital, police said. The vehicle had disabling damage, police said.

Police cited Fitzgerald for failure to stay in lane, police said.

Police were assisted by Wyalusing EMS, Towanda Memorial EMS and Shelby's Towing.

One cited in Terry Twp. MVA

State police at Towanda recently investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident in Terry Township.

According to state police information, at about 11:08 p.m. Dec. 27, an eastbound 2011 Dodge Ram operated by Hugh M. North, 62, of Seminole, Okla., lost traction on a section of Short Road due to snow and ice conditions. The vehicle then slid off the roadway and struck a tree with its front end, police said. North was not injured, police said. Police cited North for failure to drive on the right side of the roadway.

Two charged in altercation

Sayre Borough police recently arrested two people in connection with a Jan. 9 altercation at a South Keystone Avenue residence.

According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Krysti C. Rogers, 18, and Delta D. Burns, 38, both of Sayre, were each charged with simple assault and harassment. Police said the two were involved in a physical altercation at about 9 p.m. Jan. 9. Police said Rogers pushed Burns to the ground and struck her several times, while Burns pulled Rogers' hair and punched her in the head with a closed fist.

Rogers and Burns were arraigned Jan. 9 by Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox and released from the Bradford County Jail on their own recognizance. Their preliminary hearings are scheduled for Jan. 14.
