Man pleads guilty to receiving stolen property

Harry Edward Smith, 42, with an address of the Lackawanna County Jail, Scranton, has pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property, after being charged following the discovery of some stolen items in 2012 at a residence located on Route 14, just south of Doty Hill Road, in South Creek Township, according to Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox of Troy.

According to court papers, Smith was charged for receiving stolen property, namely a Kymco "Mongoose" 300cc ATV four-wheeler, valued at approximately $4,500, and a Coleman "Chesapeake" Pop-up Camper, worth about $1,500, and belonging to Erma Barnes and Richard Smith, respectively. Police said Smith had no intent to restore the property to the owner, knowing that it was stolen, or believing that it had probably been stolen.

Wilcox said Smith was fined $300 and $452 in court costs.

People charged with DUI

The following people were recently charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:

Louise Anne Clegg, 48, of Windfall Road, Canton, by Pennsylvania State Police for a one-vehicle crash at 2:08 a.m. on Dec. 1 on Minnequa Main Road in Canton Township. Police said the vehicle was rolled onto its driver's side, off the west shoulder of the road.

In addition, Clegg was also charged with failing to wear a seatbelt, careless driving, and a lane violation, according to court papers filed with the office of Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox of Troy.

She faces a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. Feb. 4 before Wilcox.

John Earl Jaquith, 68, of South Minnequa Avenue, Canton, by Canton Borough Police for an incident at 9:08 p.m. Nov. 11 in the area of the Canton Moose in Canton.

In addition, Jaquith was charged with accidents involving damage to unattended vehicle or property and a violation of "obedience to traffic-control devices," according to court papers filed with the office of Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox of Troy.

According to an affidavit, Officer Trey Kurtz was at the Canton Moose investigating another incident and was walking toward the entrance of the building when he heard a loud boom. He turned around and saw a tan 2003 Chevy Impala backed up against a white 2008 Ford truck. The driver, Jaquith, looked at Kurtz from inside the vehicle, and Kurtz yelled for him to stop, but Jaquith ignored him and left the parking lot. Kurtz activated his lights and siren for a traffic stop, and Jaquith eventually stopped and pulled over to the side of the road.

Wilcox said Jaquith waived his preliminary hearing to the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas.
