DUI charges

The following people were recently charged with driving while under the influence in Bradford County:

David A. Terkay, 56, of Waverly, by Sayre Borough police, on Oct. 4, 2013, on Spring Street in Sayre. Terkay has also been charged with failing to yield to a vehicle while entering or crossing the roadway, possession of a controlled substance and adulteration or misbranding of a controlled substance. Terkay consented to a blood test to determine the level of narcotics in his blood and admitted to using Fentanyl and Percocet, police said. Terkay has been sent a summons to appear March 4 before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw for a preliminary hearing.

Waverly police make arrests

Village police recently arrested the following, according to information from the Waverly Police Department:

Michael R. Swartz, 46, of Waverly, for welfare fraud, grand larceny, and offering a false instrument for filing. Police said Swartz falsified documents to receive unemployment benefits. Swartz was issued tickets to appear in village court at a later date.

Kristina M. Wilkinson, 24, of Waverly, for criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of a hypodermic needle. Wilkinson was issued a ticket to appear in village court at a later date.

Kristi Vallequette, 34, of Waverly, on an arrest warrant for petit larceny from the Tioga County Sheriff's Department. Police turned Vallequette over to sheriff's deputies.

Christopher Chandler, 26, of Wyalusing, as a fugitive from justice in Pennsylvania. Chandler was arraigned in Waverly Village Court and sent to the Tioga County Jail.

Michael Comstock, 22, of Waverly, on a bench warrant for criminal mischief issued by the Waverly Justice Court. Comstock was arraigned and sent to the Tioga County Jail.

Joseph Middaugh, 23, of Elmira, N.Y., on a warrant issued by Elmira City Court. Police said Middaugh was found by village police investigating a disturbance call in Waverly. Middaugh was turned over to Elmira police.

Jeffrey F. Carp, 33, of Waverly, for criminal mischief and trespass. Police said Carp was arrested after reportedly entering a local business and damaging the inside. Carp was issued a ticket to appear in village court at a later date.

Ashley R. Cole, 26, of Waverly, for petit larceny. Police said Cole was arrested for taking car keys from a victim and refusing to return them. Cole was issued a ticket to appear in village court at a later date.

Chad A. Ellis, 27, of Binghamton, N.Y., for criminal contempt. Police said Ellis reportedly violated a court order of protection. Ellis was arraigned in Waverly Village Court and released to appear at a later date.

Jennifer M. Weil, 28, of Wellsburg, N.Y., for two counts of petit larceny. Police said Weil removed items from a local business and then returned them for cash. Weil was issued a ticket to appear in Waverly Village Court at a later date.

Jacob J. Nasakaitis, 20, of Elmira, N.Y., for criminal possession of a forged instrument. Police said Nasakaitis presented fraudulent checks at a village bank. Nasakaitis was arraigned in village court and sent to the Tioga County Jail.

Veronique M. Rivera, 25, of Waverly, for endangering the welfare of a child, following a domestic incident. Rivera was arraigned in Waverly Village Court and sent to the Tioga County Jail.

State police investigate MVA

State police at Towanda recently investigated a one-car motor vehicle accident in Smithfield Township.

According to information from state police, at about 8:45 a.m. Jan. 29, a 1995 GMC Sonoma operated by Whitney S. Warren, 86, of Columbia Cross Roads, began sliding on Hoblet Road due to ice on the roadway. Police said the vehicle slid off the roadway and struck a ditch with its front end area.

Warren was uninjured, police said. Police cited Warren for failure to wear a seatbelt.

Elmira woman arrested

An Elmira, N.Y. woman was recently arrested by Tioga County, N.Y. sheriff's deputies on a charge of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

According to information from the sheriff's office, Caren A. Hill, 34, was arrested following a vehicle stop for inadequate headlights on state Route 17C in Barton. Hill was issued tickets to appear in Barton Town Court.
