DUI charges
The following people were recently arrested for driving while under the influence in Bradford County:
Joseph Eugene Conrad III, 30, of Waverly, by Sayre Borough police, on Jan. 25, in the municipal parking lot on North Lehigh Avenue in Sayre. A blood test revealed that Conrad had Alpha-PVP and Alprazolam in his system on the day of his arrest, and police said Conrad admitted to using bath salts and methamphetamine earlier that day. Conrad has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw April 15 for a preliminary hearing.
Jason Robert Vandyke, 41, of Sayre, by Athens Borough police, on March 1, at Pine and Elmira streets in Athens. Vandyke has also been charged with failure to use required position and method of turning. A blood alcohol test revealed that Vandyke's blood alcohol content was .19 percent on the day of his arrest. Vandyke has been sent a summons to appear April 15 before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw for a preliminary hearing.
Sayre man charged with assault
A Sayre man was recently arrested by borough police on a charge of simple assault.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, James R. Burlingame, 33, was also charged with harassment.
Police said Burlingame threw a female onto a bed on the night of March 15 at his Lincoln Street residence, causing bruising on the woman's chest and arms.
Burlingame was arraigned March 16 by Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $5,000 unsecured bail. Burlingame's preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 1.
Man arrested for aggravated assault
A Sayre man was recently incarcerated by borough police on a charge of aggravated assault.
According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Michael Todd Estes, 33, was also charged with simple assault, terroristic threats and recklessly endangering another person.
Police said Estes allegedly put a handgun to a female's head and threatened to kill her at about 11:15 p.m. March 13 at his Powell Street residence. Police said Estes also dragged the victim in the house by her arms and hair, causing large bruises.
Estes was arraigned March 14 by Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail. Estes' preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 25.
Man attempts to strike officer
A Berwick, Pa. man was recently arrested by Athens Borough police on a charge of aggravated assault.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Justin Lee Vaughn, 25, was also charged with resisting arrest, possession of a small amount of marijuana, theft from a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, theft by unlawful taking, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
Police said officers found Vaughn walking in the area of Fourth and Spruce streets while intoxicated and stumbling. When asked for identification, Vaughn handed police a pill bottle containing marijuana and told police it was not his, police said.
Police then tried to place Vaughn under custody, but Vaughn pulled away, spun around and attempted to strike the arresting officer with his right hand, police said. Vaughn then ran west on Spruce Street and police deployed a stun gun on Vaughn and placed him into custody, police said.
A search of Vaughn's person turned up three checkbooks not belonging to Vaughn, two boxes of ammunition, a corkscrew and a pocket knife, police said.
A woman that had been walking home with Vaughn told police he had entered multiple vehicles in the area of Wheelock Avenue, police said.
Vaughn was found to have multiple warrants for his arrest, including one for escaping the Wernersville Community Correction Center in Berks County, police said. Vaughn also had numerous theft convictions, police said.
Vaughn was arraigned March 18 by Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail. Vaughn's preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 1.
Two jailed for retail theft
Athens Township police recently arrested two people on a charge of retail theft.
According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Amber Sue Chandler, 23, and Robert Eugene Coyne, 26, attempted to remove a 70-inch television valued at $1,498 from the Walmart store on Elmira Street. Police also charged Chandler with possession of drug paraphernalia after finding a hypodermic syringe in her purse, police said.
Chandler and Coyne were each arraigned March 17 by Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail each. Both are scheduled to appear at preliminary hearings April 1 before Judge Shaw.
