Scrap metal taken
State police at Towanda said they are investigating a theft that occurred sometime between 9 p.m. March 4 and 7:20 a.m. March 5 in the 14000 block of Route 6 in West Burlington Township in which scrap metal and truck battery cores were removed from the area surrounding an automotive business.
Police said the victim was a 43-year-old man.
Man awaiting extradition
State police at Towanda said Jason Earl Whitten, no age given, of Sayre, who is a fugitive from justice, was awaiting extradition to New York following a traffic stop at 10:03 p.m. March 15 on Springfield Road at its intersection with Route 14 in Troy Township.
Police said he was found to be the subject of an active warrant from the Waverly Police Department and was arraigned and committed to Bradford County Correctional Facility.
Police said he was driving the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop.
People cited for harassment
State police at Towanda said a non-traffic citation for harassment was filed in Magisterial District Court 42-3-01 on Christopher J. Coleman, 36, and Tiffanie M. Coleman, 36, both of Wells Township.
Police said they had a verbal altercation that turned physical at 10:30 p.m. March 13 on Coryland Road in Wells Township.
Rape reported
State police at Towanda said they are investigating the sexual assault of a 14-year-old female by someone known to her that took place in 2012-13 in the Gillett area.
Door damaged
A 64-year-old Columbia Township man told state police at Towanda that his door was damaged sometime between March 15-18.
Police said the incident took place at a location on Austinville Road in Columbia Township. No suspects can be linked to the investigation at this time, police said.
Man charged with harassment
State police at Towanda said William Daniel Slocum, 30, of Towanda, was charged with one summary count of harassment following an incident at 1:31 p.m. March 13 in the 4900 block of Fairview Road in Burlington Township.
Police said the victim, a 20-year-old Towanda woman, told police that she and Slocum engaged in a verbal argument at their residence. She said the incident turned physical in nature.
Burglary invested
State police are investigating a burglary that occurred recently at the Hillsgrove Hotel on state Route 87 in Hillsgrove Township, Sullivan County.
Police reported that two suspects entered the hotel through a bathroom window by prying it open with a pry bar. Once inside, the perpetrators used the pry bar to open a cash register and a jukebox, stealing the money both contained. The burglars also attempted to break into an ATM machine, but were unsuccessful. The thieves also entered the back room and stole a carton of cigarettes, before fleeing the scene.
The first suspect is described as wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, mask, blue jeans and gloves. The second suspected was reported wearing as gray hooded sweatshirt, light blue jeans, mask, and gloves. Break-in reported at OIP
A break-in was reported recently at the OIP restaurant along the Golden Mile in Wysox.
According to state police, unknown suspects managed to gain access to the business between 9 p.m. on March 11 and 10:30 a.m. on March 12, removing $450 cash in the process. No suspects have been linked to the investigation at this time. Anyone with information regarding the incident is requested to contact the state police at (570) 265-2186.
Woman accused of violating PFA
A Forkston Township was taken into custody by state police recently for violation of a protection from abuse order.
According to state police, Theresa Marie Crockett, 53, was arrested for the above offense on March 15 around 3:22 p.m. in Asylum Township. Police said Crockett arrived at a private residence, demanding to speak to the owner. When they arrived at the scene, police reported, they determined that Crockett had a PFA placed against her which she had violated by arriving at the residence.
Police said charges will be filed against Crockett with in Bradford County Court.
Theft reported
State police are investigating a theft which occurred recently in Standing Stone Township.
Police reported that perpetrators gained access to a debit card account of a Wyalusing man, allowing them to withdraw cash from the account. Anyone with information about the incident is requested to contact the state police at (570) 265-2186; or 1 (800) 4-PA-TIPS.
Man charged with reckless endangerment
A Towanda man has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton to answer a charge of recklessly endangering another person.
According to information filed in Wheaton's office, Matthew Preston Ferris, 36, has also been charged with criminal mischief, and careless driving. Ferris is accused of deliberately driving his Dodge pickup truck into the rear of another vehicle as the two were traveling south on U.S. Route 187 in Asylum Township on March 22.
Ferris is scheduled to appear before Judge Wheaton on April 15.
Man charged with DUI
A New York man was cited by state police recently on a charge of driving while under the influence.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton, Joel Steven Benjamin, 29, has also been charged with driving on the wrong side of the road; operating a vehicle at an unsafe speed; and careless driving.
Benjamin was charged following a motor vehicle accident on Sugar Cabin Road in Warren Township on Feb. 28. Benjamin agreed to submit to a blood test which eventually revealed that his blood alcohol content was .158 percent on the day of his arrest. Benjamin has been sent a summons to appear before Judge Wheaton on May 6.
Woman charged with selling controlled substance
A Troy woman accused of selling a controlled substance to a confidential police informant was ordered incarcerated recently in lieu of bail.
According to information filed by the state police, Amea R. Renzo, 32, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance; criminal use of a communication facility; and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
Renzo is accused of having sold crystal methamphetamine to a confidential police informant last May, as well as the prescription drug oxycodone in June.
Renzo's preliminary hearing has been scheduled for April 2 before Magisterial District Judge Tim Clark.
