Motorcycle chase

SHAMOKIN - A city man was charged with theft and other offenses after leading police on a motorcycle chase through the area on May 21.

City police Patrolman Raymond Siko reported in court documents that Joseph Miscavage, 19, of 244 W. Sunbury St., was operating a motorcycle along Clay Street with no registration displayed and no helmet or eye protection. The officer stopped Miscavage and ordered him to stop the bike and push it to a safe area.

When Siko reached Franklin Street, he observed Miscavage accelerate and travel south on Franklin Street, refusing to stop. The motorcycle turned onto Pine Street, failing to stop for a stop sign. He traveled a short distance on Pine Street before stopping. He was then apprehended by police.

Miscavage said the bike belonged to a friend, Steven, but he couldn't give an address, police said. According to the affidavit, Miscavage became disorderly and was handcuffed by police.

Coal Township police determined the motorcycle was reported stolen from Tharptown.

Miscavage told police a juvenile gave him the motorcycle, claiming the youth said he received the bike from his uncle, according to police records.

Miscavage was charged with receiving stolen property, fleeing and eluding a police officer, driving without a license, careless driving, failure to stop at stop signs and driving without registration. The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III, of Shamokin,

Terroristic threats

MOUNT CARMEL - James J. Kline, 31, of 17 S. Walnut St., was charged with making terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment after an incident at his home at 12:37 a.m. Feb. 3.

Mount Carmel Borough Police Patrolman Matthew Dillman said Kline assaulted James Riggles inside Kline's residence, causing injury to his head. Kline left the home before police arrived, but called his sister, indicating he was going to torch vehicles, kill Riggles and "go after Mom."

The charges were filed with Magisterial District Judge Hugh Jones, of Mount Carmel, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 26.

Sticker altered

SHAMOKIN - Robert S. Kramer III, 25, of 424 W. Cherry St., Mount Carmel, was charged with driving with an altered inspection sticker and a number of traffic citations following a stop at Sixth and Walnut streets at 4:10 p.m. June 1.

The vehicle also had a March 2014 registration sticker on its license plate, but a check with PennDOT records showed the registration expired in April 2013.

After being taken to the station, Kramer allegedly told police that a friend gave him the blank inspection sticker and that he took the registration sticker from a wrecked car at his place of employment.

In addition to the misdemeanor charge of driving with an altered inspection sticker, Siko cited Kramer for driving without a valid certificate of inspection, driving without financial responsibility, driving without registration and driving with a suspended registration. Petersburg Sheriff's Office tackles distracted driving with Petersburg High students

Contributed Photos

This is the second year that the Petersburg Sheriff's Office has worked with students who are in Driver Education to provide information to keep them and others safe on the road. It is a two day session with the first day providing a classroom session with videos and sharing information on how drinking and driving and texting and driving could drastically change your life in a split second with one of my deputies sharing a personal experience of how she lost her husband as a result of a drunk driver. The second day actually gives them hands on experience in a Golf Cart that has been modified with seat belts, signal lights, rear view mirrors, headlights, etc. They are given goggles that distort their vision at various strengths based on the number of drinks that have been consumed and also given a cell phone to show them the consequences of texting and driving. We set up an obstacle course with orange cones and give them the opportunity to actually experience what it is like to drink and drive and text and drive by maneuvering through the obstacle course. The above picture shows Sheriffs' Office deputies guiding the students through the course.

CHESTERFIELD - The Chesterfield County/Colonial Heights Crime Solvers program needs help from the public to identify and locate a suspect in a larceny case.

Around noon on Thursday, May 16, a woman was shopping at Jo-Ann Fabrics in the Westchester Commons Shopping Center. As she was checking out, she took her purple iPad out of her purse to get to her wallet. Unfortunately, she placed a sales ad on top of the iPad, and, because it was covered, she walked out of the store without it. Soon after, she realized what she had done and went back into the store to find it, but it was nowhere to be found.

Surveillance footage later revealed that a different woman used the cart the victim had been using. This woman walked around the store, then left without purchasing anything and walked out with the iPad. She was a heavyset white female, appearing to be in her 40s or 50s. She wore a blue sundress and had her hair pulled back in a bun. Pictures of the suspect can be seen on the Crime of the Week page at www.crimesolvers.net.

If you have information about any unsolved crime in, or fugitive wanted by, Chesterfield County or the city of Colonial Heights, call Crime Solvers at 804-748-0660.
