According to an affidavit, police were dispatched to a hit and run crash. Leanne Hicks, no age or address given, told police a Subaru had been tailgating her from Springfield Road near the Springfield Cemetery, after she first saw it stopped in the middle of the westbound lane with its operator, later identified as Starks, urinating outside the vehicle.

The affidavit notes that Hicks said that as she was being tailgated, she saw Starks almost hit her on four occasions. She said Starks was driving in the left lane beside her on Springfield Road, but would not pass, and he also swerved to the right, almost going into a ditch at times.

Hicks said that as she was passing the Troy Fairgrounds on Route 14, she became scared and called 911 to report an erratic driver. She hung up and pulled up to the stop sign at the intersection of Route 6, and said Starks was behind her and blew his horn. City chase

SHAMOKIN - A 21-year-old Coal Township man accused of leading city officers on two high speed chases early Friday while driving his father's Jeep is jailed in Northumberland County Prison, Sunbury.

Levi Reigle, of 1244 Chemung St., is accused of running eight stop signs beginning at Lincoln and Eighth streets, where the first chase began shortly before 1 a.m., and continued into the Fifth Ward. Police said Reigle was alone when he drove a 1998 Jeep Cherokee into the hills of Big Mountain where the initial pursuit ended.

He again drove into the Fifth Ward about 10 minutes later and sped about on city streets, including Shamokin Street, according to police. That pursuit, too, ended with pedestrian safety in mind.

Cpl. Jarrod Scandle took Reigle into custody shortly before 2 a.m. at his home and transported him to the city police station where he allegedly failed field sobriety testing. Results of blood tests conducted at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital are pending.

Reigle is charged by Scandle with two counts each of driving under the influence, fleeing police, disorderly conduct and reckless driving along with eight stop sign violations.

He was arraigned at 9:30 a.m. Friday before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III and remanded to county prison in lieu of $15,000 cash. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.

Scandle was assisted by Patrolman William Miner.

The Jeep is owned by Jacob Reigle.

DUI charges

TREVORTON - Drunk driving charges were filed against a Sunbury man related to a June 8 crash near Trevorton.

According to state police at Stonington, Daniel Martin Cressinger, 47, of 205 N. Ninth St., had a blood alcohol level of 0.211 percent when he rolled a 1990 Ford Ranger while driving on Route 890 toward Trevorton. The vehicle struck a guide rail with its passenger side, crossed the highway and hit an embankment before rolling several times. He was alone at the time of the crash, which was reported at 8:14 p.m.

Witnesses told police Cressinger's vehicle was observed "all over" the highway just prior to the wreck.

Trooper Mark Adams said Cressinger smelled strongly of alcohol and slurred his speech while he was interviewed in the back of an ambulance. Field sobriety testing was not performed due to his injuries.

Cressinger is charged by Adams with two counts of driving under the influence, one count each of careless driving and speeding and two other roadway violations.

A preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic II is scheduled for Aug. 6.

Scrap theft

SHAMROCK MILLS - Charges were filed Monday against a Danville man accused of attempting to steal $250 worth of aluminum on June 4 from a Shamokin Township scrap yard.

State police at Stonington says Joey Allen Aikey, 31, of 4 Upper Mulberry St., entered Stoneroads Iron and Metal, 346 Rose Road, Shamokin Township, about one mile north of Route 487, and loaded his vehicle with the scrap metal. The scrap yard's owner arrived about 7 a.m. to open up and encountered Aikey and held him on scene until police arrived.

Aikey is charged by Trooper Nicholas Berger with theft, receiving stolen property and criminal trespass. A preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic II is scheduled for Aug. 6.

Stopped by a member of the store's asset protection division, she did not have valid identification and admitted having a prior conviction for retail theft.

A preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge John Gembic II is scheduled for Aug. 13.

COAL TOWNSHIP - A Shamokin woman is accused by township police of striking a man with a broken broom handle.

Christina J. Hepner, 25, of 19 E. Independence St., Apt. 7, and the alleged victim were involved in an argument at 1133 W. Montgomery St. after midnight Tuesday when she allegedly struck him in the forearm, causing injury.
