Car goes a-fowl
LOWER MAHANOY TOWNSHIP - A Selinsgrove woman suffered a minor injury in a one-car collision after she swerved to avoid striking a dead wild turkey.
State police at Stonington said Casey Paradis was traveling on Route 147, approximately two miles north of Dalmatia, when she lost control of her Toyota Solara while swerving around the deceased bird at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. Her vehicle veered from the roadway and flipped over onto the roof.
Paradis, who suffered a minor injury while wearing a seat belt, will be cited for failing to drive in a single lane.
LCE violations
WILLIAMSPORT - Pennsylvania State Police Board of Liquor Control Enforcement (LCE) officers supervised an underage buyer to conduct age compliance checks at eight establishments in Montour, Northumberland and Snyder counties Friday.
Two were found to be in noncompliance. The following six establishments were found to be in compliance and did not sell to the underage buyer: Rita E. Maloney, Inc, Montour County; T.J. Shooters, Montour County; Washington Tavern, Inc., Washington Tavern, Northumberland County; Keystone Pizza Partners, LLC, Pizza Hut, Snyder County; Stielman LLC, Union County, and Wuerdy Enterprises LLC, Mansion House, Northumberland County.
Crash update
MARION HEIGHTS - Police here have released details involving an all-terrain vehicle accident Saturday afternoon after which a Coal Township man was flown to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Patrolman David Stamets said Dennis Hynes, 54, suffered serious injuries in the 1:15 p.m. crash between the co-generation plant and Sagon, approximately one mile north of Marion Heights.
Stamets said a family member informed him that Hynes was on a life-support machine at Geisinger and may have suffered paralysis. A spokeswoman at Geisinger said Hynes was not listed as a patient there and couldn't provide a condition update.
Stamets said Hynes was driving an ATV when he lost control on a dirt path. The ATV then landed on top of Hynes in a rock drainage ditch.
Local firefighters and rescue personnel located Hynes, placed him on a litter and transported the victim on a side-by-side off-road vehicle to an awaiting AREA Services ambulance. He was then taken to the ballfield in Marion Heights, where Life Flight helicopter landed and flew him to Geisinger.
Stamets said it took more than an hour for rescue personnel to locate the victim and bring him out of the woods. The officer noted it was difficult for authorities to find the location of the accident.
Stamets said the accident remains under investigation.
