Argument outside bar results in assault charges
Officers with the Sayre Borough Police Department were in patrol on Oct. 25 when they witnessed an argument occurring outside of the FlatIron bar on Lehigh Avenue in the borough.
As officers passed, they noticed a woman, later identified as 23 year old Athens resident, Samantha C.J. Evans, arguing with a man, identified as 29 year old Patrick Colter of Sayre. The two were yelling with another female between them when Evans reached around here and slapped Colter in the face with her left hand, according to reports. Colter responded by shoving the female between them out of the way and began repeatedly punching Evans in the face, police reported.
Police intervened and placed both individuals in custody.
Evans was placed under arrest and charged with attempted simple assault and harassment.
Colter was charged with attempted simple assault and harassment including a shove, strike, or kick. He was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Fred Wheaton.
Domestic argument results in arrest
Officers with the Sayre Borough Police Department responded to an emergency call from a residence on North Elmer Avenue for a report of a domestic dispute.
Upon arriving at the residence, officers spoke to a female who reported her boyfriend, Brian Williams, 36 of Sayre, became angry and flipped a coffee table. He then grabbed a cell phone charger and used it to strike the victim in the back, causing large black and blue swollen areas. The victim then relayed to police that she was five months pregnant.
Williams was placed into custody and charged with attempted simple assault and disorderly conduct. He will face these charges at a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw.
Scooter without plate results in multiple charges
While in patrol on Desmond Street in Sayre Borough, officers observed a man riding a scooter which did not have a registration plate. The operator was seen without eye protection and observed to be very unsteady on his vehicle.
Officers initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as John M. Schwartzbauer, 31 of Sayre. As police ran the plate, no valid information was found. Upon speaking with the Schwartzbauer, police were able to detect a strong odor of alcohol.
After being asked to perform a standard of field sobriety tests, Shwartzbauer was placed under arrest and charged with DUI: general impairment, DUI: high rate of alcohol, required financial responsibility, and registration and title required.
He is set to meet Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 5.
