Drug arrest reported
On Dec. 19, officers conducting investigations into drug related activity with the Pennsylvania State Police reported the arrest of Richard Lee Henderson, 27, of Athens, for several offenses related to drug possession. Witnesses stated that Henderson sold a large amount of marijuana to an individual.
Officers subsequently arrested Henderson and charged him with possession with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility. He was arraigned on Dec. 18 and received non-monetary bail. He is set to face these charges at a preliminary hearing on Jan. 13 with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw.
Dushore man uninjured in crash
According to state police in Laporte, Scott Johnson, 41, of Dushore was uninjured when the 2010 Nissan Frontier he was driving left the roadway and overturned on Dec. 27 in Forks Township. Johnson was charged with careless driving and was using his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Museum victim of criminal mischief
The Merritt Airfield and Museum in Laporte was recently the victim of criminal mischief as a result of an incident that occurred on Dec. 29.
According to state police in Laporte, unknown actor(s) damaged a gate on a private road leading to the airfield and then fled the scene. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Laporte state police.
Man cited for criminal mischief
A Wyalusing man was issued a citation for criminal mischief following an incident that occurred on Jan. 4 in Monroe Township. According to state police, Skylar Rickie Grimes, 19, drove through the 63-year-old male victim's yard, leaving a rut. The citation for criminal mischief was filed on Grimes through District Court 42-3-03.
Vehicle stolen in Towanda
According to state police, a 35-year-old Ulster man was the victim of theft as actor(s) failed to return his vehicle after services rendered on Aug. 1 in Towanda. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at (570) 265-2186.
Theft through fraud and forgery occurs
State police are investigating a case of theft that occurred on Sept. 26 in Towanda involving the paycheck of a 19-year-old male victim. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at (570) 265-2186.
Towanda woman victim of theft
A 29-year-old Towanda woman was recently the victim of theft following an incident that occurred on Dec. 19 in Towanda Township.
According to state police, the theft occurred when an actor retrieved gift cards and purchased gifts intended for the victim's nieces and nephews without authorization from the victim. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at (570) 265-2186.
Simple assault occurs in Towanda
A Towanda man was recently charged with simple assault and harassment following an incident that occurred on Sept. 27 in Towanda.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark's office, Richard Kuykendall, 70, confronted the 38-year-old male victim for allegedly following too closely behind him with his high beams on. During the verbal altercation, Kuykendall caused the .25 caliber pistol that he had in his possession to be pointed at the victim.
Kuykendall was sent a summons for a preliminary hearing scheduled for Feb. 25.
Man faces multiple charges following hit-and-run crash
A Towanda man faces charges of fleeing the scene of an accident involving injury and damage to a vehicle; two counts of driving under the influence of a controlled substance; failure to obey traffic signs; careless driving; failure to use headlights at a time period requiring light lamps and operating a vehicle without a valid inspection following an incident that occurred around 7 a.m. on Dec. 8 in Towanda.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark's office, at the intersection of Colonial Drive and State Route 6 in North Towanda, James Thomas Wells, 44, ran a stop sign and crashed into a vehicle driven by a male victim. He then fled the scene when the victim got out of his vehicle to exchange information. When police arrived at Wells' residence at approximately 7:45 a.m. to interview him, his vehicle was observed to have major front end damage and minor passenger side damage. Police also observed multiple signs that Wells was under the influence of a substance. When Wells was taken into custody, he admitted to taking two Xanax and a blood test eventually revealed a large presence of Alprazolam in his blood.
Wells has been sent a summons for a preliminary hearing scheduled for Feb. 13.
Man fails to comply with Megan's Law requirements
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Timothy Clark's office, Duane Terrence Demellier, 34, of Wysox was charged with failure to comply with Megan's Law requirements after he did not verify his residence in the required three business days after moving out of his previous residence in October.
Demellier was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw in lieu of $25,000 bail.
