Rome couple victims of identity theft

A Rome couple had tax information accessed and taxes filed in their names without permission.

Wayne and Gail Harper - 61 and 58, respectively - were victims of the identity theft by an unknown actor on Jan. 26.

The incident is under investigation by state police.

Wilmot man charged with harassment

A domestic dispute that turned physical led to harassment charges filed against 41-year-old Darrin Lee Steele of Wilmot Township, police said.

Police said the incident occurred Feb. 2 at about 6:55 p.m. on Burke Road in Wilmot Township.

The victim was a 46-year-old woman also of Wilmot Township, police said.

Prescription drugs stolen in New Albany theft

Police said between Feb. 22 and Feb. 26 an unknown actor is believed to have stolen prescription drugs from the home of Winifred Ann Mosier, 60, of New Albany.

Police said Mosier believes the actor had lawful access to her home.

Police said the incident is being investigated.

Minor injuries in Albany Twp. crash

Paul L. Zupicick, 54, of Kulpmont, suffered minor injuries after crashing his 2001 Ford Ranger on Feb. 21 at about 12:21 p.m., police said.

According to police, Zupicick was heading south on state Route 220 in the Village of Stevenson in Albany Township when he lost control of the truck while negotiating a right-hand curve.

The truck crossed over into the northbound lane and the shoulder where it crashed into a ditch.

After hitting the ditch, the truck rolled onto its roof and slid about 30 feet and came to rest in a field.

Zupicick was cited with driving at an unsafe speed.

TV stolen in Wilmot Twp. burglary

Between Feb. 21 and Feb. 24, a 55-inch Vizio flat screen TV was stolen from a home after unknown actors forcibly entered the home through a locked garage door, police said.

The actors made their way to the second story and stole the TV, the victim being Theodore Kintner, 63, of Mehoopany, police said.

State police are asking anyone with information to contact them at (570) 265-2186.

Two teens injured in Rome crash

Two 17-year-old males suffered minor injuries after crashing a 1992 Dodge Dakota on Battle Creek Road, police said.

According to police, on Feb. 1 at about 12:30 a.m., the truck was heading south when it crossed into the northbound lane and then back into the southbound lane where the truck left the road.

Police said the truck slid 40 feet then hit a stump on the driver side which caused the truck to roll and land on all four wheels.

Police said Western Alliance EMS transported the driver and passenger to Robert Packer Hospital where they were treated for minor bruising and released that morning.

Both the driver and passenger were wearing seat belts, police said.

The driver was cited with driving at an unsafe speed, police said.

New Albany brothers charged with harassment in fight

Two brothers were charged with harassment after a verbal argument turned physical, police said.

On March 2 at about 3:30 p.m., the brothers, one 17 years old and the other 26 years old, shoved one another after an argument about family matters became physical, police said.

Theft reported at Dollar General

On Jan. 31, the Athens Township Police Department was dispatched to the Dollar General for a report of a retail theft, committed by two females. Upon their arrival, officers arrested 37-year-old Jaimie S. Bruce of Sayre, for one count of retail theft and one count of criminal conspiracy to commit retail theft. She was issued a summons to face the charges.

Bruce is scheduled to answer to the charges at a preliminary hearing with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on March 24.

Drug possession reported

On Jan. 30, Pennsylvania State Police arrested 37-year-old Kevin K. Kinsman of Ulster and 28-year-old Tiffany Westbrook of Rome on charges of drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. The charges came as a result of an incident on Burke Road in Wilmot Township.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle occurs

On Jan. 15, Pennsylvania State Police received a call regarding the unauthorized use of a vehicle by 19-year-old Anita D. Evans. The victim stated that Evans had taken his vehicle two days prior and he immediately asked her to return with the vehicle as he realized it had been taken. He then stated Evans related she would bring the vehicle the next day, and failed to do so. On Jan. 15, Evans related to the victim that she left his vehicle at McDonald's with the keys in the vehicle. The victim further stated that Evans was operating the vehicle without a valid license.

Evans was therefore issued a summons for the offenses of unauthorized use of an automobile and driving while privileges revoked. She is set to face these charges at a preliminary hearing with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on March 11.

Vehicle strikes pole

On Feb. 2, a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Nathan S. Seeley of Warren Center, slid off the roadway and struck a utility pole. The vehicle spun off the pole and came to final rest facing north. The driver was cited with driving on the right side of the roadway.

Theft from Dandy Mini Mart reported

On Jan. 25, an unknown person entered the Dandy Mini Mart on the Berwick Turnpike in Ridgebury Township and took four cartons of Newport cigarettes before heading toward the trailer park to the north side of the store. The individual was wearing a black coat with a gray hooded sweatshirt and a hat with camouflage on the front.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Pennsylvania State Police at (570) 265-2186.

Drug possession arrest made

On Jan. 20, officers with the Athens Township Police Department approached a vehicle in the parking area of the Xtra Mart convenience store on Elmira Street, and observed a male preparing to inject heroin into his body. Upon speaking with the individual, he told officers that the female with him, identified as 30-year-old Mallory A. Manzer of Gillett, had more purported heroin in her possession.

Officers detained Manzer and searched the contents of her purse. The officers then found five bags of heroin and a blue rubber case which contained a drug kit of a metal spoon and hypodermic needle. Manzer volunteered that the drugs and paraphernalia were hers.

Manzer was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, violation of the controlled substance drug, device and cosmetic act for possession of heroin, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She is currently awaiting her formal arraignment in the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas. Manzer is currently incarcerated at the Bradford County Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Police respond to one vehicle crash

On Jan. 1, Athens Borough Police responded to an accident on West Pine Street. Upon arrival, officers spoke to both the driver and a witness to the accident who observed a sedan roll onto its passenger side after striking a tree.

The officer stated in his report that it appeared the driver, Darren E. Pruyne, 44, of Milan, had no idea that he had drifted off the roadway and onto private property before the collision with the tree. The officer also noticed Pruyne to have a strong odor of alcohol emanating from his person and Pruyne admitted to have been coming from Kelly's Bar in Sayre.

Having performed the standard battery of field sobriety tests, Pruyne was found to be under the influence of alcoholic beverages. After a legal blood draw, Pruyne's blood alcohol level was found to be .15 percent.

Pruyne was therefore charged with DUI: highest rate of alcohol, DUI: general impairment, accidents involving damage to property, and driving on the right side of the roadway. He is set to face the charges at a preliminary hearing on March 13 with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw.

Two-vehicle accident reported in Sayre

On Feb. 16, Sayre Borough Police responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of North Hopkins and Mohawk streets. While speaking with the driver of one of the vehicles, Terry L. Murray, 49, of Towanda, officers noticed a strong odor of alcohol emitting from her person. She was also speaking with slurred speech and had bloodshot and glassy eyes.

Murray was asked to perform the standard battery of field sobriety tests, which she failed to perform at a satisfactory manner.

Murray was therefore placed under arrest for the offenses of DUI: highest rate of alcohol, DUI: general impairment, accidents causing injury to another, driving while license suspended DUI related, and driving without a license.

She was prearraigned on Feb. 16 by Judge Wheaton and was incarcerated in the Bradford County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 bail.

She is set to return to answer to the charges at a formal arraignment in the Bradford County Court of Common Pleas on March 12.

Traffic stop results in charges for DUI

On Jan. 18, Stephen T. Palmer of Waverly, was arrested and charged with several DUI related charges, resulting from a traffic stop. Sayre Police officers observed a vehicle driven by Palmer veer across the center line of travel several times before initiating a traffic stop.

As the officers spoke with Palmer, they noticed a strong odor of alcoholic beverage, as well as bloodshot, glassy eyes.

He was then asked to perform the standard battery of field sobriety tests, which he failed to perform in a satisfactory manner. He was then placed into custody for DUI.

He was charged with DUI: general impairment and DUI: highest rate of alcohol.

Palmer will be asked to enter a plea to these charges at a preliminary hearing on March 27 with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw.
