DUI charges
The following people were recently arrested for driving while under the influence in Bradford County:
Stephen Michael Bloss, 31, of Sayre, by Athens Township police, on July 7, on Riverside Drive in Athens Township. Bloss failed a field sobriety test and submitted to a blood alcohol test to determine his blood alcohol content. Bloss has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw Aug. 27 for a preliminary hearing.
Joshua Lee Anthony, 23, of Milan, by Athens Borough police, on June 29, on Central Avenue in Athens. A preliminary breath test showed positive for alcohol, and Anthony submitted to a blood alcohol test to determine his blood alcohol content. Anthony has been sent a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw Sept. 3 for a preliminary hearing.
The following people were recently arrested for driving while under the influence in Tioga County, N.Y.:
Billy J. Chilson, 33, of Barton, N.Y., by county sheriff's deputies, on July 25, on Talmadge Hill Road West in Barton. Chilson has also been charged with failure to keep right, parking on pavement and driving with an open container of alcohol. Chilson was issued tickets to appear Aug. 13 in Barton town court.
Woman accused of harboring suspect
An Athens woman was recently arrested by borough police on a charge of hindering apprehension.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Kasey Lee Vanhousen, 24, was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said Vanhousen was found to be harboring a fugitive knowing he was wanted by county law enforcement. While searching Vanhousen's residence, police found baggies, needles, a glass pipe and other drug paraphernalia, police said.
Vanhousen was arraigned July 28 by Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox and remanded to the Bradford County Jail on $45,000 unsecured bail. Vanhousen's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 6.
Theft charge
A Corning, N.Y. man was recently charged with theft by unlawful taking by Athens Borough police.
According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Casey J. Voorhees, 23, was also charged with receiving stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
Police said Voorhees removed a computer from a borough resident after offering to repair it and then sold it. Upon executing a search warrant, police found bath salts, hypodermic needles and cotton balls as well as other drug paraphernalia in a borough apartment where Voorhees was located, police said.
Voorhees was arraigned July 28 by Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $60,000 bail. Voorhees' preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 6.
Man charged with criminal trespass
A Sayre man was recently arrested by borough police on a charge of criminal trespassing.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Thomas A. Bashore, 46, was also charged with loitering and prowling at night time, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
Police said Bashore was arrested after attempting to gain entry into a Tioga Street apartment. Police said Bashore was under the influence of bath salts.
Bashore was arraigned July 27 by Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Wilcox and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $55,000 bail. Bashore's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 6.
Columbia Cross Roads man arrested
A Columbia Cross Roads man was recently arrested by Sayre Borough police on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Cody A. Varga, 25, was also charged with disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
Police said Varga was found to be intoxicated and yelling foul language on July 6 in the Desmond Street area. Police said officers found a glass pipe commonly used to smoke marijuana upon searching Varga.
Varga's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 27.
Assault charge
A Sayre man was recently charged with assault by Athens Township police.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Michael David Miner, 52, was also charged with criminal mischief by intentionally damaging property.
Police said Miner damaged two vehicles and threatened a man during a June 29 incident at a Markham Road location.
Miner's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 27.
Woman charged with receiving stolen property
Two people were recently charged with receiving stolen property by Athens Township police.
According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Amber Muzzy, 24, of New Albany, and John Henry Kern II, 19, of Sayre, were also charged with retail theft.
Police said Muzzy and Kern removed a wheelchair from Robert Packer Hospital and candy, beef jerky and two cellular phones from the Walmart store on Elmira Street.
Muzzy and Kern each have preliminary hearings scheduled for Aug. 27.
Drug paraphernalia charge
A Barton, N.Y. woman was recently charged with possession of drug paraphernalia by Athens Township police.
According to information filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, Deborah Ellen Meyer, 42, was found to be in possession of hypodermic needles, a metal spoon and cotton ball during investigation into a July 22 incident on Front Street.
Meyer's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 3.
Sayre man charged
A Sayre man was recently charged with disorderly conduct by Athens Township police.
According to papers filed with Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw, David Joseph Spencer, 33, was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said Spencer jumped out in front of a car and chased it July 22 on Front Street. Spencer was found to be in possession of hypodermic needles and had admitted to using bath salts earlier in the day, police said.
Spencer was arraigned July 22 and remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $35,000 bail. Spencer's preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 30.
