Access device fraud

State police at Towanda said Brandon Lawrence Alexander, 26, of Granville Summit, used the bank account of Rebecca Mae Louise Bump, 23, of Rome, to make purchases from Dec. 14 to April 27.

Police listed the location of the incident as Burlington Borough and Granville Township.

According to police, charges were filed on Alexander through District Court 42-3-01.

Violin taken

Dakota Michael Williams, 18, of Canton, told state police at Towanda that his violin and violin carrying case were stolen sometime between July 19 and July 20 from his residence in Canton Township.

According to police, the violin is described as cherry-colored, with some oak, and the violin bow is cherry red in color. Police said the carrying case is made of black fabric, and has a teal blue interior, a heart on the outside of the case, and Williams' name written on top of the case in green paint. The case also contained a pitch pipe and rosin block, police said.

Police said the total value of the violin and carrying case is estimated at $350.

Two injured in crash

Two people were injured in a one-vehicle crash that occurred recently on Towner Hill Road in Rome Township.

According to state police, Dominick M. Manuel, 18, of Rome was driving a 2001 Dodge Ram north on Towner Hill Road around 11:45 p.m. on Aug. 2. Riding with Manuel was Elizabeth D. Poirier, 18, of Rome.

Police said Manuel lost control of his vehicle on a curve, causing it to travel south into a ditch located on the west side of the road. The Dodge then traveled for approximately 75 feet, then overturned onto the driver's side. The vehicle then slid across the northbound lane and overturned onto its roof before coming to rest in a ditch on the east side of the road.

Manuel, Poirier and a third unidentified passenger exited the vehicle right before it burst into flames. Manuel suffered a minor cut to his head, while Poirier suffered minor injuries to her right hand and left knee. The second passenger was not injured. All were transported via West Alliance EMS to Robert Packer Hospital for treatment. Rome Fire Department assisted at the scene.

Police reported that Manuel will be cited for operating a vehicle at an unsafe speed.

Man charged in Milan DUI

A 58-year-old man from Wapwallopen, Pa. was charged with DUI after crashing into a home in Milan on July 17, Towanda state police said.

Edward J. Palsha was heading east on Milan Road in Ulster when he left the roadway and crashed into a Macafee Road residence, police said.

Police said charges were filed against Palsha on July 30.

Athens man charged with theft

Lance E. Gesford, 31, of Athens was charged with retail theft by Athens Township Police on July 28 after Gesford attempted to steal a pair of work boots from the Elmira Street Walmart in Athens Township on that date, Athens police said.

Gesford said he forgot to take the boots out of his cart when paying for items at the self checkout register, but footage provided by Walmart's asset protection office showed Gesford and a female paying for various items and placing them on the boots, police said.

The boots' value was $49.76, according to police.

Police said Gesford entered a guilty plea to a retail theft charge in June 2010.

Gesford has been issued a summons to appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on Sept. 8 for his preliminary hearing.

11 cited for criminal trespassing in Smithfield

Towanda state police cited 11 juveniles and teens with criminal trespassing on Aug. 1 after the owner of a vacation cabin checked on the property, state police said.

A large amount of beer bottles, male and female clothing, and $1 bills were found on the property, police said.

Police said the 11 people organized the bonfire party on Twitter.

Street sign stolen in Windham

On July 31, an unknown person stole a street sign that was posted at the end of a driveway located on White Deer Lane in Windham Township belonging to Charles Vasey, 66, of Rome, according to state police. Anyone with information is asked to contact Towanda state police at (570) 265-2186.

Attempted burglary at Indian Hills Auto Sales

State police at Towanda are investigating an attempted burglary at Indian Hills Auto Sales on Route 6 in Tuscarora Township. According to state police, between 8:30 p.m. on July 27 and 8:15 a.m. on July 28, someone removed a window from the rear of the office and attempted to gain entry. Deer blind windows damaged in Wyalusing

State police at Towanda are investigating a criminal mischief incident that occurred between July 18 and Aug 1. According to state police, a person fled a wooded area off of Wyalusing New Albany Road after damaging windows on a deer blind belonging to Theresa Arizzi, 56, of New Albany. Car stolen and damaged in Litchfield

Between 7:30 p.m. on July 30 and 10 a.m. on July 31, a vehicle belonging to Jessica Ashcraft, 34, of Sayre, was stolen while parked in her neighbor's driveway on Sackett Creek Road in Litchfield Township.

According to state police, the vehicle was later found abandoned at a location on Snow Road in Litchfield with heavy damage. The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Towanda state police at (570) 265-2186.

Money stolen from Troy residence

At 8:44 a.m. on July 15, a person entered a home belonging to Robert and Susan Storch of Troy located on 3457 Porter Rd. in Troy Township.

According to state police, the person stole $885 cash from the residence. Anyone with information is asked to contact Towanda state police at (570) 265-2186.

Items stolen from home in Troy

Between June 17 and July 21, unknown actor(s) went inside a residence located on Farmers Valley Road in Troy Township. Upon entering, the person first went into a bedroom belonging to Josh Sapp, 36, of Troy and stole a black/gray Brink Security Safe that contained a black Springfield 911 A1 45 caliber, U.S. currency, $200 cash and approximately 90 Adderall. The person next entered a room belonging to Sonner Anderson, 26, of Troy, and stole a small glass of U.S. currency coins worth approximately $50. The person then went into a bedroom belonging to Dyamond Deleon, 21, of Troy and stole a jar of U.S. currency coins worth approximately $100. The person finally went downstairs into a bedroom belonging to Tom Evans, 40, of Troy, and stole a black Swiss Arms TAC 1 Pellet Gun 177 caliber with a 4x32 Swiss Arms Scope. The person then fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Copper piping stolen in Canton

Towanda state police are investigating an incident where copper piping was stolen from inside a home located at 607 Rosner Rd. in Canton Township, belonging to Stephen Botella, 52, of Roaring Branch between 8 a.m. on May 29 and 10 a.m. on July 11.

One injured

State police at Towanda said one person was injured in a two-vehicle crash that took place at 8:45 a.m. July 23 on Route 6 (Main Street) in Troy Borough.

According to police, drivers involved in the crash were Brian D. Ward, 57, of Mooringsport, La. and Joshua R. Ferrario, 27, of Towanda, who had a minor injury. Ward was driving a Ford F250 and Ferrario was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee, police said.

Police said Ferrario's vehicle was stopped at a red light on Route 6, facing west in the area of Martha Lloyd Community Services, and Ward was traveling in the same direction, just east of Ferrario's vehicle. While traveling, Ward fell asleep and opened his eyes, just before impact, police said. He did not have enough time to apply his brakes, and impacted the rear end of Ferrario's vehicle, police said. Both vehicles continued traveling west on Route 6 for approximately 10 feet, and came to a stop in the westbound lane of travel, still facing west, police said.

Junior's Towing towed both vehicles from the scene, and the Troy Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.

Ward was charged with careless driving, police said.

Woman struck

State police at Towanda said Ray Harold Chaapel, 48, of Canton, shoved and struck a 46-year-old Canton woman at 8:50 p.m. July 12 on Taylor Road in Canton Township.

Members of state police at Towanda investigated and charges have been filed in District Court 42-3-01, police said.
