Waverly man charged with retail theft
Shawn Garfield Palmer, 23, of Waverly, was charged with retail theft by Athens Township Police on May 31 last year after attempting to steal merchandise from the Elmira Street Walmart in Athens Township, Athens police said.
Palmer and two individuals were seen by Walmart's asset protection associate placing unpaid items in a cart alongside purchased items in an attempt to steal the merchandise, police said.
The associate was able to stop Palmer and a female, but another male with them, who police identified as Tyler Williams, got away, police said.
Palmer said "that's what it looks like" when asked if Williams was letting Palmer take the fall for the theft, police said.
The 31 items Palmer attempted to steal totaled $244.47, police said.
Palmer previously pled guilty to a retail theft charge in 2009, police said.
Palmer was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on Sept. 10 and was remanded to the Bradford County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
Palmer will appear before Shaw on Sept. 22 for his preliminary hearing.
State police looking into identity theft
On July 27, Towanda state police said a Sayre man reported his identity had been stolen.
According to police, the identity theft resulted in fraudulent withdrawals from the victim's bank account.

Driver injured in Smithfield crash
According to Towanda state police, the driver of a 2007 Dodge Caravan suffered minor injuries after crashing the vehicle on Aug. 2 on Milan Road in Smithfield Township.
Linda Passeri, 70, of Athens, was heading west on the road when the vehicle traveled off the road, striking a ditch, police said.
The vehicle went airborne and flipped over before landing upright on the road, police said.
Passeri was taken to Robert Packer Hospital by Smithfield EMS, police said.
Police said Passeri was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Passeri was cited for failure to obey traffic lanes, police said.
Utility pole damaged in hit and run
Towanda state police said a vehicle struck a Frontier utility pole on Sheshequin Road in Sheshequin Township on Aug. 1.
According to police, the vehicle was heading north on Sheshequin Road and turned onto Snyder Lane.
The vehicle struck the pole on the east side of the road and fled the scene, police said.
Indecent assault investigation in Ridgebury
State police are investigating an indecent assault incident that occurred between July 28 and Aug. 11 in Ridgebury, Towanda state police reported.
Police said they received a report of "inappropriate touching" between cousins.
Sayre woman facing simple assault charge
Athens Borough Police filed simple assault charges against 23-year-old Melissa Ann Coolbaugh of Sayre after an incident on Aug. 22, Athens police said.
According to police, the victim said Coolbaugh assaulted her, punching her in the face, pulling her to the ground by her hair and breaking her glasses in the process.
Police interviewed Coolbaugh, who corroborated the victim's story and said she knew what she did was wrong, police said.
Coolbaugh will appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on Oct. 13 for her preliminary hearing.
Two car accident in Ulster Twp.
A Ford F150 crashed into the rear of a Ford Escape on Aug. 29 on U.S. Route 220 in Ulster Township, Towanda state police said.
Police said the Escape was heading south on Route 220 and waiting for a vehicle in front of it to turn into the Ulster Post Office when the F150 failed to stop and hit the Escape.
No drivers or passengers were injured in the crash, as all occupants were wearing seatbelts, police said.
The F150 was towed from the scene by Benjamin's Towing, police said.
Tri-Township Ambulance and Ulster Fire and Ambulance assisted at the scene, police said.
Richard E. Hall, 38, of Towanda, was driving the F150 and was cited for careless driving, police said.
Sayre woman charged with hindering apprehension
Caitlin Leora Phillips, 23, of Sayre, was charged with hindering apprehension or prosecution; harboring or concealing, and hindering apprehension or prosecution, warning, by Sayre Borough Police on Aug. 30, Sayre police said.
According to police, they received a call stating a male with active warrants out for his arrest was at a Bradford Street residence.
When police arrived, a woman, later identified as Phillips, ran into the residence then out the back door, police said.
Phillips was yelling to the male to run because the police were there, police said.
Phillips will appear before Magisterial District Judge Michael Shaw on Oct. 13 for her preliminary hearing.
